Annual CTE Day on February 9, 2018

Sumner County Schools was honored to host its 4th Annual CTE Day on Friday, February 9. CTE Day is held to promote CTE throughout the county and honor our great CTE teachers. Among the invitees this year were selected CTE teachers (rotated on a yearly basis), Principals, CTE Assistant Principals, CTE Bookkeepers, School Board Members, Central Office staff, industry partners, and other supporters of CTE.

Dr. Phillips began the event with a welcome and overview of CTE in Sumner County. Chase Moore, CTE Coordinator, then provided specific information about current initiatives in CTE. Brandon Hudson (TCAT Nashville) and Kevin Harrison (TCAT Hartsville) spoke about what is happening at their respective institutions, while Allie Johnson (1st VP of TN FCCLA) and Julia Knaggs (President of TN FFA) gave inspiring speeches about how much CTE has impacted their high school careers. After an outstanding lunch provided by Chef West and Gallatin High School's Culinary Arts program, Candi Norwood (Director of Student Success with the TDOE) discussed how Tennessee is looked at as a model for CTE throughout the country.

Gallatin High School's Culinary Arts Students Bake Cookies for Soldiers

The Culinary Arts students at GHS prepared 20 dozen giant chocolate chip cookies for the troops serving in Iraq. The class sent three large boxes full of the delicious treats to the Joint Forces Command in Baghdad. The cookies were a great morale booster for the troops and they hope to receive more in the future.
