Lincoln/ Madison Feeder

Legendary Leadership * World-class Scholarship

Week of April 4, 2016

Our Vision

The Lincoln/Madison Feeder Pattern prepares scholars to lead, think, communicate and compete as responsible citizens who are college and career bound.

Data-Driven Instruction

Our students and staff worked extremely hard last week during our first round of testing. Now, 5 weeks are left before our second round occurs. The key for the coming weeks will be data-driven instruction. We will teach a little and then test a little. I have received 5 week plans from all of the elementary schools since they have to shift gears with their grouping. High schools should continue their STAAR plans for biology, U.S. History and Algebra 1 for the next 5 weeks. Ensure that you are collecting data daily through DOLs and at least weekly through quizzes. Students should be able to articulate their strengths and weaknesses, and you as the principal should know the hot SEs for your content areas. Update your data wall from last week's mini-marker and indicate the hot SEs that were spiraled from the released test that was given in the 4th six weeks. Stay focused.

Together, we are game changers for our students, schools and communities. I believe that we have everything that we need to win; in fact we are already victorious. I believe that each of our schools will meet standard with an increase in distinctions. I urge you to believe with me.

An Ode to Charles Rice: The South Dallas School that Could

If you have not taken a moment to read the Dallas Observer article which highlights the deeply embedded culture of excellence at Charles Rice, please take a moment to read it today at the link below. As I read it, I could not help but think about the things that were not mentioned such as the frequent home visits, counseling/ministering to struggling families or the trips to the golf course or India. The article did not describe how the few individuals who do come to the campus as new staff members are indoctrinated to high expectations by not only the principal, but the teachers who possess such great pride in their school. It does not mention how teachers hold each other accountable for always being Rice Ready for students or how the students hold each other accountable for being Rice Ready for teachers. The culture is real, sustainable and only attained through strong leadership. Thank you for letting us all know what is possible in South Dallas.

O.M. Roberts to Start a Two-Way Dual Language Program

Principal Padro at Roberts listens to her school community, and because of that, she has decided to open a two-way dual language program at the school next year. This program teaches dominant English and dominant Spanish students in both languages in order to strengthen bilingualism, biliteracy and biculturalism. This is yet another choice for the families in our community who want their children prepared to be competitive, global citizens. Please stop by the O. M. Roberts' table at the upcoming Two-Way Dual Language Fair on April 9 from 9:00-12:00 at Townview.
