From the Desk of Christina Gutierrez

Welcome to December! Though this year has been challenging and unpredictable, your dedication to our students remains strong and reliable and I thank you. We have three short weeks to get through before our Winter Break. Let's continue to work as a team to provide our students with district wide curriculum lessons and expectations. Change is hard, but even harder without a focus.

Happy Holidays to you and yours,

Mrs. C. Gutierrez

Standards Mastery with I-Ready are coming in January for grades 3-6!

i-Ready Standards Mastery

Beginning in January grades 3-6 will begin with assigning standards mastery (ism's) quizzes to students. Grade levels will decide on testing dates as a district to match priority standards and cycles.

What is a Standards Mastery?

i-Ready Standards Mastery provides flexible assessments designed to measure specific grade-level standards. Built to map to your scope and sequence, Standards Mastery allows educators to quickly identify when reteaching or remediation is needed as standards are covered across the year. The program’s intuitive reports visualize student performance on recently taught material and guide teachers how to address common misconceptions that may prevent students from making progress in their learning.

IREADY Professional Development on Wednesday, December 9th for classroom teachers. Please look out for more details from your principal.

Strengthening Problem Solving Virtually and in Person Part 1: Mathematical Discourse and Collaboration

Looking for ways to strengthen problem solving virtually? This webinar is a great resource and does just that. The presenter does a great job of offering what it might look like while virtual teaching. Definitely worth the watch. She hits on collaboration, question stems and much more. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to elementary-level teachers and school leaders.

Prepping for Heggerty in K-2

Coming in the Fall of 2021!!

We will be adding the Heggerty Curriculum to our K-2 classrooms via the Early Intervention Grant. In the last newsletter I sent out a quick video of Heggerty in action. Take a peek at the quick videos this month that have explanations to phonemic awareness and use of hand movements

Introduction to Heggerty Phonemic Awareness

A great explanation of what is Phonemic Awareness and how it is different than Phonics.

Curriculum Mapping

Thank you the K-3 team members that joined us for the writing expectations conversation at the last curriculum meeting. Your participation was appreciated and we are excited for the next steps. The next meeting will be for grades 4-6th on December 9th. The agenda is the same. We will review and refine the ELA map together as a team and answer any remaining questions.
