Support Nurse Practitioners!
Expand Nurse Practitioner Practice Authority
Proposed Policy
Nurse practitioners (NP) have the ability to fill a big gap in primary healthcare. They are trained to diagnose and treat patients and have been proven to have excellent patient outcomes. NPs have the ability to provide a great service at an affordable price.
I urge you, Senator Schwertner, to support our efforts to expand NP practice authority. This initiative has the potential to save money and reduce healthcare expenditures in an overtaxed healthcare system. Allowing more autonomy for NPs will also reduce workload on physicians who have to have a collaborative agreement with NPs and will allow those physicians to focus more on complex cases while the NP cares for acute and non-complex patients.
Importance of the Policy
- There are more patients than providers in Texas
- The shortage is expected to increase since numbers of graduating primary physicians are diminishing
- Patients may not be able to see a primary provider in a timely manner because there are too few to fill the need
How NPs can Help
- Provide safe, effective service at a lower cost
- Ensure excellent care with good patient outcomes
- Enjoy great relationships with patients and attempt to improve the health for the people of Texas
What You Can Do to Help
- Support legislation to remove practice restrictions on NPs
- Allow NPs to practice to the full extent of their education
- Help the people of Texas have access to quality care at a lower cost
