Mrs. Gavey's Classroom Update
January 13, 2017
Greetings in the new year!
I hope all of you had a great holiday break. The end of January is sneaking up on us! The 2nd marking period ends on January 20th. Our class will be taking the second installment of the NWEA testing starting Tuesday, January 17. We will spread out the testing over a one week period which includes three tests (math, reading, and language) and is done entirely online. I'm looking forward to seeing how the students have progressed since September. Also, the Scholastic book order for January is due on Jan. 27. Thanks for contacting me with any questions or concerns you might have as we get to the half year mark.
We will finish up Unit 3 by the end of January. Telling time has been challenging for some, as we are all used to reading digital clocks. Most students have really been pushing themselves to master the facts by the end of January too! Please keep plugging away at the math facts. I think students are beginning to realize the importance of knowing those facts!
We are beginning a comparison study of fiction and non-fiction texts. We will then focus on just non-fiction texts as the 3rd marking period begins. Our writing will also focus on the informational genre. Your child's writing binder will come home for your viewing pleasure by the end of next week!
