JUNIORS:
Some important final reminders about the School Day SAT on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
You can also view a video of this information here.
Chromebooks
*Bring WHS Chromebook, fully charged, and the power cord on the day of testing!
*The test is digital, and only WHS Chromebooks have the ability to access the test. Loaner devices will be used for students who may have technical difficulties, not for students who forgot their Chromebook.
*If students have never brought their WHS Chromebook into school, it will need updating. Bring it to school before Thursday, get on the network and let it update. The updates can take a long time, so do not wait until the morning of the SAT.
The Day of the Exam
*Students will report directly to their testing rooms that morning, and should arrive by 8:35 AM. The sooner everyone arrives and is ready to start, the sooner they can begin testing.
*Students who arrive once testing has begun will not be allowed to start the test, and will need to take the make-up exam in April.
*Testing room locations and assignments can be found here.
Other Reminders:
*Bring a snack and some water for break times, as well as some pencils and a calculator.
*Absolutely no cell phones or smart watches during testing! They must be completely shut off and stored away from students in backpacks during testing. If students are found to use electronic devices during testing, even during breaks, their tests will be canceled and their scores will be invalidated.
Dismissal
*Testing is scheduled to be completed at approximately 12:45 for standard time, and around 2:45 for extended time.
*Students must remain in the testing room until the test is completed, and your proctor dismisses you. There will be no early dismissals for work or for appointments, so please plan accordingly.
*There will be grab-and-go food in the main cafeteria.
*Once their testing room is dismissed, students are free to leave for the day, if they have transportation. Buses will be available to take students home at the end of the day, at the normal time. Students who must stay for the buses will wait in the cafeteria until the buses arrive.
Sending Test Scores to Colleges
*If students were unable to access their college score sends during the SAT Pre-Administration, they can do so for up to nine days after the exam.
*To add colleges to receive scores, or to modify your list, students can call the College Board at 866-756-7346. (Then press Option 3 for Registration, and then Option 2.)
*Students can take advantage of their four free score sends now. After nine days after the exam, students will pay $12 per college to send their scores.
Make-up Exams
*Since this is a mandatory exam for all students, they should make every effort to be present for this School Day SAT on Thursday. However, for those students who are sick and cannot be present, there will be a make-up exam on April 14th.
If students or families have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Christy Ulsas, ulsasc@wws.k12.in.us
National Merit Scholarship Finalists
Congratulations to our 3 National Merit Scholarship Finalists for 2022-2023, Lucas Mayhew, Gabby Wheeler and Ryan Witzman!
Created in 1955, the national merit scholarship is a yearly academic competition that provides scholarships and recognition to US high schoolers.
The name ‘national merit scholarship’ refers to 2 facts:
National: The competition is available to eligible high school students across the United States.
Merit scholarship: To receive an award, applicants must show outstanding academic achievement and other special skill sets (e.g., essay writing).
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) administers the national merit scholarship and is a non-profit organization that receives no government assistance. Receiving an award from the NMSC is one of the highest academic achievements for high school students. The NMSC partners with colleges and corporations to give additional scholarships to students who become finalists in the competition. They award a total of 8,500 scholarships with a combined value of about $39 million. All finalists are eligible to compete for a $2,500 scholarship.
Good luck in the scholarship selection process Lucas, Gabby and Ryan!
