Classroom News

In addition to wearing masks, reading, singing, and exercising outside, getting sweaty, drinking lots of water, and following all the rules, students actually are doing some really great things in their classrooms. Check out what each class was up to this week!

Early Childhood - We are learning all about things “back to school”, including things we see at school and the things we need at school (crayons, pencils, scissors, etc). We are also practicing our cutting and gluing skills :)

4K - We are learning that we are READERS and WRITERS!

5K -Kindergartners are working hard on letters, numbers, and printing their names. They are doing a great job following directions in the classroom to stay safe and healthy.

1st - We've really been doing a lot of practicing classroom and school building (COVID) routines and procedures as well as a review of sight words in a variety of fun ways - hopscotch, rainbow write, pipe cleaners, etc. We also have started our i-Ready online assessments.

2nd -Second grade is working on addition and subtraction facts through 20. We're also building our reading stamina and updating our i-Ready information.

3rd -This week we learned all about Reader's Workshop. We chose new books, filled out our new logs, and decided that Third Grade will be the best reading year yet. We are going to treat books like they are gold.

4th - This week 4th grade learned about how glaciers forever changed Wisconsin's landscapes.

THE WINKLER WAY

The Winkler Way

This week, students learned about positive behavior development such as Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Students who exemplify the Winkler Way will be given "Yee Haw Tickets". Drawings will be held weekly and monthly to recognize students who have earned tickets by demonstrating Respect, Responsibility, and Safety.

We will begin handing out "Yee Haw" tickets on Monday and draw for prizes on Friday.

LUNCH OPTIONS FOR JEDI STUDENTS

Students in the JEDI program during the 2020-21 school year or are in 7-12 grade at BHS with some virtual learning days are still eligible to participate in the school meal program.

Families can Pre-order meals for the week by 1 pm the THURSDAY before the week of service. Breakfast will continue to be free for all students, but lunch charges will be based on meal status eligibility (free/reduced or fully paid). Students with a fully paid status must have sufficient money in their account before placing a lunch order for the week.

GRAB-N-GO BREAKFAST

This week we started a new approach to breakfast and it was a bit hit! Students are now able to order a “Grab-N-Go” breakfast to be delivered to their classrooms in the morning. Breakfast is always free and includes cereal, milk, juice, fruit, and another snack. Teachers will be taking orders daily.

STUDENT CALL IN PROCEDURES

When you call the school to inform them of an absence, please leave a detailed message including all symptoms your child has (temperature, cough, sore throat, vomiting, etc). We will be monitoring the numbers of students and staff absent with certain symptoms and reporting weekly our numbers to the local health department.

IMMUNIZATIONS

Wisconsin Law requires BASD to submit immunization information to the health department. Families who have not submitted the Required Immunization Form will be contacted by [NAME], [SCHOOL]'s Health Aide. Immunization records can be printed from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry or families can complete the WAIVER in Step 4. If you are contacted, please respond promptly.

WHAT TO DO IF MY CHILD IS ILL

Families are the front line for keeping children healthy. Each student's health should be evaluated EVERY DAY before sending the student to school.

Keep symptomatic children home from school
Share details about symptoms if a child is absent
Be prepared to quickly pick up a child who becomes ill at school

BASD Health Services has compiled these Health Procedure updates related to what families need to do and how the school will handle illness. Please refer to these Health Procedure updates regularly.

GET READY FOR PICTURE DAY

In-person students will have their picture day on Thursday morning, September 3rd.

JEDI students will be able to have pictures taken on Monday October 19th starting at 1:00. We will be emailing a schedule based on homeroom closer to the date.

YEARBOOKS

We have a few extra 2019/2020 Yearbooks for sale in the Winkler Office. if you would like one, please sent $10.50 with your child in an envelope marked for the office.
