Fantastic Fourth Grade

Peek at the Week

Here is what is coming up next week!

Writing-We are continuing our Poetry unit. We have learned about 12 different types of poetry such as Limericks, Holiday Poems, Bio-Poems, Lantern Poems, Shape Poems, Year Poems, What is____? Poems, Alliteration Poems, Haikus, Cinquain Poems, Diamonte Poems, and Couplet Poems. The students are now working on creating their own poetry books modeling these different types of poems.

Reading-We are looking at many different reading passages and applying the skills we learned to the passage such as cause and effect, author's purpose, main idea, and summary.

Math-We started our unit on Data Analysis and Financial Literacy. This past week we have looked at how to analyze data using frequency tables, line plots, histograms, and stem and leaf plots. This coming week we will begin Financial Literacy were we will discuss fixed and variable expenses, profit, and how to track earnings and spendings in a checkbook!

Science-We are beginning a new unit on life cycles and will be comparing plant life cycles and animals life cycles.

Texas History-The students will begin looking at the individuals, events, and issues that helped to shape modern day Texas.

Field Trip

Reminder!! The field trip is on Monday! Please have your student wear their class shirt for the field trip. It makes it easier to identify students in each class. Also, do not forget to send your child with their sack lunch. Field trip lunches are pre-ordered and not available to order the day of the field trip. If you ordered a school sack lunch on the form sent home 2 weeks ago, your student's lunch will be picked up in the morning before we head out for the field trip.

Maternity Leave

As you all know, I am expecting a baby girl at the end of May, but after talking to my doctor there is a possibility that she may be coming sooner. I will be taking leave as of May 16 so my last day with the students will be with May 13. It has been a wonderful year with your students and I will miss them so much! Thank you so much for all your support this year.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports came home on Friday. Please understand that reports were submitted on Monday but I have since added grades since then so please check Home Access for the most recent report of your child's grades.

The paper has the directions and the slip that needs to be returned by Monday. This is considered homework and will be given every Friday. If your student did not turn it in today, they need to do so by tomorrow!

Book Club Expectations

I have gone onto my Classroom blogger page Mrs. Wright's Brights and updated the Book Club expectations. Click on the tab at the top of the page for Book Club expectations and it will explain to you how Book Club is run in the classroom and what the students are responsible for completing at home and at school. The link to Mrs. Wright's Brights is at the bottom of this newsletter.
