STAND Survey Going Out Next Week!

Our Students and Teachers Against Negative Decisions (STAND) committee has crafted a survey for our students to take regarding drugs and alcohol. The survey will be given through surveymonkey and will be completely anonymous. We will send out a QR code to English teachers so students can take the surveys according to grade level.

If you have any concerns about the survey or would like your student to opt out of the survey, please contact

We hope to use this information to assess the areas that we can best help students keep from making destructive choices with drugs and alcohol.

Graduation Details!

The Class of 2016 will graduate in the LVHS gymnasium at 6:00 pm, on Friday, June 3, 2016. Doors will open at 5:00 pm. We will be live-streaming the event in the LVHS cafeteria for those with small children, those who do not want to navigate the stands, or those who arrive late.

Summer and Fall ACC classes for Sophomores and Juniors!

Is your student interested in enrolling in Dual Credit Classes offered by Austin Community College? This is a great way to save time and money by earning college credit while also earning required high school credits! Our ACC Dual Credit Advisor spoke with all sophomores this month to review the process for enrollment. Completed co-enrollment forms must be turned in by Tuesday, April 19! See the following link for enrollment steps:

Spring is such a busy time of year for all of us! Please take time this weekend to talk to your student about their current progress in school. Explore with them how they are feeling about school, either academically or socially. Do they feel supported? Do they know where to go or who to ask for help? Do they seem isolated or do they have activities that help them feel "connected" at school? Please feel free to call to discuss any concerns you may have about your student. I can be reached at (512) 267-8300, Ext. 5506. or by email

So much going on this month!

Check out all of it by going to and clicking on the "April at a Glance" in the scrolling list on the right!

Attendance - Things you need to know!

Spring is the time of the year when absences start to pile up. Be sure you are aware of the consequences for your student missing too much school:

3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home.

7 or more unexcused absences in a 6-month period - warning letter sent home and Behavior Intervention Plan meeting called with the parents, student, and assistant principal.

10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.

Our campus goal is to reach 96% attendance each day. If a student is at school at 10:00 am (2nd/6th period attendance times), we receive funding for that student for that day. If they are not, we do not receive funding. For this reason, we ask that you plan all non-medical absences from school for times after 10:00 am.

Weird, but true, attendance fact: If your student is present for any part of the school day and leaves for a medical appointment, they won't get counted absent for that day as long as they bring a note. If they are absent for the entire day for a doctor's appointment, they will be counted absent.

Thanks for your support!

Every Wednesday is College Day! Encourage your students to dress in their favorite college's gear!
