Mrs. Finch's Class News

Vol. 1, Issue 18

Week of February 15th-19th, 2016

We had a wonderful Valentine's Party last Friday! Thank you to our room mom for coordinating everything and for all parents/guardians who sent in items that made it all a huge success. Before the party each child guessed how many chocolate kisses were in a jar. The winner was announced during the party. Noelle Jones was the lucky recipient of 138 chocolate kisses!

Now we will begin to think more about our next big production which is our Barnyard Moosical, our 2nd grade program music program that we will perform in March. We have been working hard in music class learning the songs.

Progress Reports came home last Friday. Please review your child's report and sign and return it as soon as possible.

Don't forget that Tuesday is the due date for Six Flags Reading Logs. If your child is participating, please be sure to return the log by Tuesday. Thank you!

Have a wonderful week!

Practice Math Facts At Home

Please be sure your child is practicing math facts and reading at home. Easy ways to practice facts are through educational apps or Xtra Math, https://xtramath.org/#/home/index

and Fast Math http://fasttmath.cpsd.us:55880/slms-static/s_app_fm/fm_login.html programs that can be found on my teacher web page. Every student has a personal login to access these math facts sites.

Your child also has access to the computer lab every morning beginning at 7:20. If you don't have access to a computer at home take advantage of this opportunity.

Computer Lab Is Open Every Morning

The computer lab is open every morning for your child to spend extra time practicing math fact fluency and Istation reading. What a great way to continue learning.

The lab opens every morning beginning at 7:20AM. Instead of sitting in the gym and waiting for the bell to ring this would be a great way for many to use this time.

Also, if you want to avoid the longer carpool lines, drop your child off earlier so he or she can take advantage of this computer lab time.

ClassDojo has launched a new video series: Big Ideas teaching children growth mindset. Check out these three wonderful videos that we have seen (videos 1, 2, and 3) and will see (video 4) in class on Monday.

I love that the kiddos know that a new video is released each Sunday and they ask to see it as soon as they get to school on Monday morning. You know these videos have an impact when this happens.

GoNoodle: Great Way to Learn and Stay Active

We also engage in GoNoodle activities daily. The kiddos love it! This is a free web site sponsored by Cook Children's. Please check it out! It would be great if you chose to sign up, too. You know it's something good when the boys and girls ask how to join are have joined and are using it at home.

Our school attendance goal is 98% every day. We want to do our part.

Our class goal for 2016 is to have 0 tardies for one full week, Monday thru Friday. As every school day counts, so does being at school on time. We are still hoping to meet this goal for the first time.

Last week's attendance results: Tardies decreased by 50%!

Tardies--3 (previous week: 7)
