Harrison Traffic/Parking Update
If you have driven by our school this summer you know that the major renovations we have been talking about are well under way. When they are complete, Harrison will look like a new campus. Construction will continue into the new school year so we have made some changes to our traffic and parking plans. We know change is difficult, and we are asking for your patience and understanding as we are all in this together. Our goals are:
1. Safety. The safety of our students, staff and visitors is the priority. This includes our buses. This plan has bus and cars in separate queues, and keeps traffic from backing up on Ballard Ave.
2. Minimal disruption to students and parents. We looked at several options and selected the one that had minimal impact on those of you dropping off and picking up your children.
3. Minimal disruption to staff, parking and overall traffic flow.
A map of the new traffic plan is attached. When school starts on Monday, August 24 we will follow this plan until construction is completed.
Student Drop Off/Pick Up
· Parents who drive their child(ren) to and from school will enter from Pirate Drive, north of the campus. Turn right on 2nd Street (next to Shaffer Stadium) and proceed west toward the campus. You may form two lines as you approach the school. Students will enter/exit from the cafeteria doors and staff will assist them.
· Please do not drop off or pick up in the parking lot next to Harrison (Wylie ISD Administration Building), as this lot will be blocked off to thru traffic.
Bus Loop
· The bus loop has been moved to the front of the school. We ask that parents please avoid this entry when buses are loading and unloading. Only students who ride a buses will be dismissed to the bus loop.
Parking
· Visitor parking is in the front of the school, near the southwest corner. The school’s main entrance is at the south end of the building. Access to this lot will be limited when buses are waiting to pick kids up after school.
· Please do not park in the lot next to Harrison (Wylie ISD Administration Building) as this will be the Harrison staff lot.
We will have Harrison staff and Wylie Police on site to help direct traffic. Please allow for extra time and patience, especially during the first few days. This is a temporary inconvenience, and we will get through it. Plus, our school will look great when it’s done. If you have any questions please let me know. See you on August 24th!!

Cell Phones
Students may bring cell phones to school; however, they are to be turned off during the instructional part of the day unless the teachers asks that they be used to support student learning and instruction. Students should not be placing calls, receiving texts or calls, texting during the school day unless asked to do so by an adult in the building. If your child is ill, he or she is to report to the clinic and the school nurse will call parents accordingly. Cell phones may be confiscated and returned at the end of the day if students are not following campus expectations.
