January Recap
A Busy & Fun January
It's been a busy January in the library! See below for more about all the fun learning that has been going on! The book checked out the most this month was "Creepy Crayon" by Aaron Reynolds, 624 books were checked out, and 48 books were renewed. There has also been a lot of excitement about the series, "The Last Kids on Earth" this month. It's been hard to keep them on the shelf! The kids have been doing a great job getting their books back on time and showing responsibility for taking care of the books!
What's been going on in the library?
The library has been exploding with reading, learning, and fun this month! We have read so many great books together. Some of our favorites were The Questioneer Books, A Snowy Day, Wolf in the Snow, The Gruffalo, Owl Babies, Something's Wrong, and a few of John Rocco's books. Kindergarteners have been exploring PebbleGo, an online database and learning all about arctic animals and owls. We had fun with the wordless book, Wolf in the Snow, in 1st grade this month. The kids were amazed at how we could interpret a story from illustrations! After reading this and A Snowy Day, the kids created the setting with Legos and retold the story with their Lego setting and character. This is one of my favorite times of year in 2nd grade when we get to meet the characters from Andrea Beaty's Questioneer books. We have explored what it means to be an engineer, scientist, and architect, solved problems with our own inventions, and designed bridges that would span a river. So much fun! 3rd grade worked on a convincing argument of a school pet by doing research, determining what would be the most important facts for their argument, and creating a video to present their decision. In February, the kids will vote on a hypothetical school pet. In 4th grade we have begun meeting the author, Dan Santat, and learning all about his amazing illustrations and stories. Additionally, all grades have experimented with robots this month in a challenge to have Dorothy find the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion and get to the Emerald City as part of the schoolwide reading program. It's been a great month in the library!
