Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 6 newsletter.
New Learning Spaces
The term is flying by and we are excitedly awaiting the handover of our hall and new learning spaces that will be used for our Stage 1 classes Yesterday our Stage 1 teachers had a sneak preview and WOW! The learning spaces are amazing, there is brand new flexible furniture and modern, future focused spaces for our students to learn in. At Prestons we are passionate about equipping our students to live and learn successfully in the 21st century in a future focused learning environment. Our students need to develop the skills that are required to prepare them for further study and jobs in the future. These skills are known as the 4 C’s and include creativity, communication, collaboration and communication. Our teachers have engaged in research and professional learning over the past three years to ensure that our teaching practices support preparing our students for the future. All classes will benefit from our whole school approach to engage students and to embed the 4 C’s into our approach to learning at Prestons Public School.
School Hours
Parents and careers are reminded that school hours are from 9-3. Supervision starts at 8.30am and students are dismissed at 3pm. There is no supervision outside of these hours provided by the school. We do have before and after school care onsite at Prestons for those families who require care outside of school hours. You are able to contact Cubby House at enrol@cubbycc.com.au or www.cubbycc.com.au
School Uniform
At Prestons we are proud of our wonderful school. We encourage all students to wear their school uniform with pride. Thank you for supporting our school by ensuring that your child wears their full school uniform to school each day. Our P&C have endorsed our school uniform. If you are experiencing financial difficulty please contact the school as we can offer assistance.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning and how have they been successful.

Kindergarten 2020

Enrolment forms can be collected from the administration office.
School Travel 2020
2020 school travel applications now open
Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.
Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:
· are continuing at the same school
· are residing at the same address
· have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Classroom Chat with K Platypus
K Platypus have a had a huge week! We had to say goodbye to our amazing teacher Mrs Wall. We wish her all the best with her new baby and hope to see her again! We have settled in with our new teacher Miss M really well and have been learning some exciting things.
In Maths, we have been practising the concept of Time and learning how to read the time in Analog and Digital form. We are reading time to hour and half-hour. The playful Platypuses have been practising time in games like What's the time Mr Wolf?
In Literacy, we have been reading a great story named Willy and Hugh by Anothyn Browne and practising describing characters and rewriting stories in our own words.
The amazing Platypuses have also loved taking part in Gymnastics every week for sport. We have perfected our motorbike landing and are now working on doing cartwheels. Thanks to the team at SportsPro for helping us!
In Science, we have been learning about Living Things in particular we looked at plants. We planted our very own Snapdragon, Cress and Viola together as a class and we can't wait to watch them grow!
K Platypus are looking forward to the colour run explosion this Thursday!
Have a great end of Term from Miss M and the Platypuses.
