SLPHS Families,
Today is “Surfer vs. Biker” day AND the reported outdoor “feels like temp” is -15 degrees. I brought one outfit for the ride to work and another to represent the Surfer crowd inside the building today. Thank you to all the students and staff who are participating in our winter spirit week. The energy in the building is very positive and a welcome boost in the middle of winter!
Please note some important dates and reminders coming up, including the planned distance learning day for next Monday, February 7 that we’ve communicated the last several weeks.
Here’s what’s coming up:
- January 31-February 23: Registration is open for 2022-2023: During this window of time SLPHS students can explore and officially register for courses for next year. Students will have a variety of supports throughout this time and complete their registration by February 23. Find everything you need on the high school registration page.
- Monday, February 7 – Distance learning day: This will be an asynchronous/distance learning day for all students while we host the Northwest Suburban Music Festival in our high school building.
- February 8-11 – NO S.E.T. time: School begins at 8:10 a.m. each day with period 1. We will have Panther Pride Time all week focused on registration for next year.
- February 17-21 – No school: These are staff work days and the President’s Day holiday.
We continue to see to declines in COVID cases and related absences this week. This is good news for learning! Thank you for the partnership and support as we move through the remainder of trimester 2 and course registration for next year. Stay warm.

Distance learning - February 7
As a reminder, Monday, February 7 will be a distance learning day for high school students. Students will work from home on assignments and learning tasks that will post on Schoology. Our staff will be available online and via phone to support learning. High school bus transportation will not run that day.
SLPHS will host the Northwest Suburban Music Festival on February 7. This is a great experience for our musicians and a fantastic collaboration with our local partners. Learn more about it on the Northwest Music Festival website.
No S.E.T. times for students the week of February 7
We will not follow the S.E.T. schedule next week, instead students will have four days of PantherPride. This schedule with give students time to focus on 2022-2023 school year registration. All students should report to school at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday-Friday with the exception of Monday, February 7, which is a distance learning day due to the NWSC Music Festival.
Singing Telegrams
The performers were fantastic and the kids in class loved watching them perform! Thank you for bringing joy with such a creative, fun, festive environment which will build camaraderie and school spirit.
FCCLA - From Regionals to State!
Register for spring athletics
Registration for Minnesota State High School League athletics is now open for the spring season. Visit the registration page to register today. Registration will remain open for the first few weeks of the season. There are many great opportunities for students to get involved.
Here's what's available:
- Adapted Softball (co-op with Centennial)
- Adapted Bowling
- Baseball
- Boys Golf
- Girls Golf
- Boys Lacrosse
- Girls Lacrosse
- Softball
- Boys Tennis
- Track and Field (Co-ed)
There are also more than 40 student-based interest clubs and activities are currently being offered at Spring Lake Park High School including new clubs such as SLP Green club, Comparative Literature club, Current Affairs club and more. Be sure to check out the wide variety of activities offered and get involved today!

Ready, Set, FAFSA
Are you or someone you know applying to college this year? The "Ready, Set, FAFSA" series of financial aid webinars created specifically for students and families to help them prepare for the college-going process kicks off next Tuesday, February 8.
Session #1 - Financial Aid Overview - February 8, 7 p.m.
In the Financial Aid Overview session, learn more about the many ways to pay for college—like grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study—and how to apply for them. Register here.
Stayed tuned for more sessions throughout February and the beginning of March. A $500 scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing for students who register and attend 4 out of 5 of the sessions.
1:1 Meetings for 9th and 10th graders
Your 9th and 10th graders will be invited this spring for a 1:1 meeting with their counselor to discuss high school planning and post-high school planning. Parents are welcome to attend these meetings with their student(s). Due to tight schedules, meetings cannot be rescheduled. Counselors are happy to have parents attend via phone or WebEx to make it more possible to participate in a daytime meeting. Please reach out to your child's assigned counselor with questions.
- Registration is open for 2022-2023 now through February 23
- Monday, February 7 – Distance learning day due to NWSC Music Festival
- Wednesday, February 9 - 8th Grade Registration Night from 6-8 p.m. at SLPHS
- February 17-21 – No school
Don't delay - get your tickets today!
You're invited to join together to support the educational experiences of Spring Lake Park Schools with a special focus this year on preparing students for milestone moments. We hope to shine a light on the important milestone beginnings that create confident and comfortable kids who are ready for their next steps.
- Kinder Camp - Creating comfort and confidence at the beginning of our youngest learners' school experience
- Westwood Welcome - Students coming together for the first time as they transition from elementary to secondary school
- Panther Mentors - Ensuring a welcoming, personalized and successful start to a student's high school career as a 9th grader
One way you can help support these important milestone moments is by purchasing a ticket for the Panthers for a Purpose event on February 26 at 7 p.m. at Bunker Hill. The clock is ticking so don't delay! Limited VIP tickets are still available through February 11. General event ticket prices will increase by $20 after February 11 if tickets still remain available.
It's sure a night you won't want to miss so get your tickets and come ready to celebrate and support our amazing SLP community!
