coal and hydro power
ian mckowen and brady ford hour7
where is the resource found and formed ?
coal-coal is found in the ground and formed by plants and animals that died a million years ago.
hydro power- in a river there is a dam that the water goes through it and spins around to make energy.
how do we harness the energy to make it useful?
coal- coal mines dig up the coal then the electric power plant burns coal into fuel and into electricity.
hydro power-hydro power is used for electricity from the dams with water spinning in them.
how do consumers use the energy?
coal-about half of all homes in the united states use natural gas for heating homes and used for gas to run cars.
hydro power-hydro power is used for electricity like for lights, tv's,and computers.
what cool facts & statistics can you find?
coal- coal is a fossil fuel, it takes about a million years to form.
hydro power-hydro power is renewable and 99% of norways electricity is hydro power.
what are the environmental impacts of the energy form?
coal- when mining coal it can harm wildlife when burning coal it causes air pollution.
hydro power-if in a dam it olds up too much water it can cause a drought at the other side of the river.
what is one innovative alternative energy form you discovered?
solar powered cars don't need to be charged by a plug it can be charged by the sun.
