The Gazette
March 2016
The month of March was a very busy one for us, as the children have been working hard on their lessons. I usually like to highlight something new in every newsletter, but after looking at my photos and notes from the past two months, I realized that it could be interesting to mention how excited your children were to practice their language works. So, in this newsletter I will post pictures of some of their language works and next time I will post pictures of their most recent math works.
Several four and five year olds focused on various reading works. For instance, we practiced reading phonetic words and introduced some sight words. For a few, we introduced new phonograms (sh, ee, ch. th, ai and many more) and started reading short sentences and or Bob's books. Through repetition, children are becoming more confident readers. I find it interesting that despite the fact that some of the children may not know all 26 sounds, they are still plugging away and highly motivated! Children who are working on writing craft have also spent time writing on chalkboards and or in their notebooks.
As for the 3 year olds, we have continued our Sand Paper Letters and Sound/Object Boxes. We love hearing them sound out each other's names or words. They often shout out: My name begins with the /r/ sound!

" Making use of his own will in his contact with his environment, he (the child) develops his various facilities and thus becomes in a sense his own creator. We should regard this secret effort of the child as something sacred. " Dr. Maria Montessori
