Cavalier Caller (Parent Edition)

Vol. 12 LTHS Week of 10/23 to 10/29

We survived HOCO Week

Cav Parent Nation,

Thank you for a successful Homecoming Week 2017! Our PTO parent volunteers were amazing putting together our first ever Homecoming Extravaganza. The parade, the game, and the dance were absolutely amazing. Speaking of the dance, your students were incredible on Saturday night. Before you know it, we will be planning next year's activities.

We are in the second quarter and please let us know if you or your child still has questions about the secret world of LTHS. No secrets, just lots of info to learn about our school.

Go Cavs!

Gordon Butler, Principal

Bond/TRE Information

On Monday, October 23, registered voters who reside within Lake Travis ISD will have an opportunity to decide the outcome of two propositions affecting our district—a bond election and a Tax Ratification Election, or TRE.

If you have not done so already, I ask that you please take a moment to review the materials posted on our Bond and TRE website. There are a number of resources that explain these elections in great detail including our 2017 demographic update, bond budget and listing of components, full slide presentation, previously recorded Facebook Live presentation, TRE explainer video, video library, frequently asked questions and voting information.

While you may vote at any polling location within Travis County, each of our campuses will serve as an early voting mobile location. These mobile locations are intended to provide you with convenient access to cast your ballot. Please be sure to review the list of campus early voting mobile locations.

Most importantly VOTE!

PSAT is coming

PSAT Day is coming on October 25th. The PSAT is a practice SAT that we offer for our Junior and Sophomores (freshmen take a scaled-down practice version to get the feel of the test. Scoring well on this test allows students across the nation to qualify as National Merit Semifinalists (who can go on to become Finalists). Students qualify as a NMS with their Junior year score.

9th Grade Parents Only:

Ninth graders will take a Practice PSAT provided by Kaplan Test Prep on October 25 when Juniors and Sophomores take the regular PSAT. Each 9th grade student will be given a paper test but will grade his or her test through an online website. Freshmen must sign up ahead of time so they can 'check' their answers after the test. Go to the following link

The form includes:

  • Student Name
  • Student Email / prefer personal email not school email. They may use a parent email.
  • Parent or Guardian name
  • Parent Email
  • Grad Year: 2021

What are Seniors doing on this day?

Seniors will have breakfast, receive graduation information & complete the FAFSA and ApplyTexas and start the graduation checklist to make sure everyone is on track to graduate!

Challenge #8

Visit this website! You'll understand the information below better.

Student Experience

District administrators over the next two weeks will be attempting to recreate the experiences of a student. The purpose of this exercise is to get a better feel from the student perspective on what it is like to be a student. Although this exercise will not capture all of a student's experience, we hope it will guide our decision making as our district tries to enhance the learning opportunities for our students. See above for more information.

We want to celebrate your good news and encourage others!

Many of our students are starting to receive their acceptance letters. We would love to take your student's letter and turn it into a poster to hang throughout our building. Don't worry we whiteout any student id numbers and addresses. If you have more than one, choose the best one or two!

Article of Note

This is actually a blog that I like to read because it makes me think. I don't agree with everything the author writes about, but learning has to make you uncomfortable sometimes.
