The 4-H Update

August 19, 2022

State Fair

If you have a 4-H project that was selected for the Nebraska State Fair, the 4-H Staff will transport all State Fair items to Grand Island with the exception of very large exhibits. Send exhibits at your own risk. We will provide the State Fair entry tags for you. Be sure your entry is labeled with your name, county and all required supporting information. Read the corresponding section of the State Fair Book to determine what needs to accompany your entry. In most departments, exhibitors are limited to 1 item per class. If more than one has been selected, YOU must decide which exhibit you want to go to the State Fair. All exhibits must be well packaged and labeled.

The following drop off schedule has been set:

DOUGLAS OFFICE: 8015 West Center Road, Omaha, NE 68124

Monday, August 22 from 8 am – 4:30 pm and Tuesday, August 23 from 8 am – 4:30 pm

After State Fair, entries may be picked up at the Extension office.

Wednesday, September 7 through Friday, September 9 from 8 am – 4:30 pm.

Please pick up items NO LATER than Sept. 9 as we do not have room to store them.

New to 4-H?

The new 4-H year starts in October, but planning can happen now. There are two ways to get involved in 4-H - Club vs. Independent.

Club Member Participation

One of the oldest and most traditional parts of 4-H is getting involved with a club. We encourage new members to join a club the first few years to better understand 4-H and help make it a fun and memorable experience for the youth and their family. Contact our office (ksundgren@unl.edu) to see what clubs are taking new members.

Independent Member Participation

Interested in venturing out on your own?

Not a problem! You can enroll as an Independent member and participate that way, too.

For more info. contact Katherine at ksundgren@unl.edu

Time for School

Douglas-Sarpy 4-H'er Scarlett is ready for a great school year. She is one of our Passport Program prize winners.

This is an interactive, educational part of fair that is open to the public. Consider volunteering to help with the Passport Program during 2023 fair. It is a great way to promote 4-H and teach the public Ag Literacy.

Diamond Clover

The Nebraska 4-H Diamond Clover program encourages 4-H youth to engage in a variety of programs, projects, and activities that will enable youth to acquire skills and abilities that will prepare them for success in the future. The program is designed to reach and recognize all youth engaged in 4-H, from club members and campers to school enrichment, afterschool, and special interest program participants.

The program consists of six levels that require a young person to plan and report a broad range of age-appropriate accomplishments. For each level, the Nebraska 4-H Diamond Clover program provides a list of accomplishments from which 4-H youth choose their goals. Start your application today!
