View Lily's Senior Project at the Jefferson County Library
Lily N.'s senior project about Chinese History in Port Townsend is on display for the month of May at the Jefferson County Library.
Here is what Lily says about her project:
"I chose this project on the Chinese in Port Townsend because I’m also a Chinese immigrant. I wanted to learn why there are hardly any Chinese people in Port Townsend and what it was like for the Chinese who immigrated to the US all those years ago. This project educates the community by teaching them about the Chinese in Port Townsend, the Old Chinatown in Port Townsend and the Chinese Gardens. The Old Chinatown was Memorial field and the Antique mall downtown. It got burned down in a fire. The firefighters saved the American shops but not the Chinatown. They let it burn to the ground. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was the first federal law that restricted immigration based on nationality and would remain in tact for over 60 years."
Seeking Adult Volunteers for Senior Presentations
May 24, from 5:15-7:00pm OCEAN seniors will be presenting their Senior Projects. We are looking for adults who would like to be community members in the room providing feedback on presentations. If you would like to volunteer contact Katie, kquimby@ptschools.org.
