Superintendent Welcome Letter
August 12, 2020
Dear Leyden families,
Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! We are excited to welcome students on Monday, August 17 for the first day of remote learning. We look forward to working with your children this year.
I am very proud of how our students, staff, families, and communities have handled the circumstances surrounding COVID-19. I want to thank you for your continued support and patience over the last several months.
We recognize the importance of face-to-face instruction, but at this time remote learning is the best direction for our school community. We have made significant changes to the remote plan to ensure an enhanced student experience compared to what we did at the end of the last semester.
This year is different, and it presents many challenges. But we are doing everything possible to ensure that all students succeed. This summer our administration worked diligently to ensure that we have a successful school year.
Our primary focus is on three things: the safety and wellness of all students and staff, access to a dynamic, high-quality education experience, and the delivery of educational and mental health supports.
During the summer our team worked on the following:
developed instructional models for the 2020-21 school year that included hybrid, remote, and on-site learning plans
completed various construction and renovation projects
developed preventative measure protocols regarding COVID-19
served over 270,000 meals to families
acquired new chromebooks for seniors and incoming freshmen; and new hotspots that will allow for unlimited data usage
established several new communication platforms in preparation for the new school year.
As we get into the year, we hope to make our buildings available to students who need a safe and quiet place to study. We are working on that process as well as acquiring additional WiFi hotspots for students who need help with daily internet access at home.

When we are back to in-person learning, we ask that students who are sick or experiencing any symptoms be kept home for the sake of our school community. Please model and reinforce positive behaviors including hand washing, mask wearing, social distancing, and all other health and safety guidelines.Contact us if you have any questions or if you, or your child, need any assistance.
The last few months have been difficult for everyone, but we hope that you spent and enjoyed time with your loved ones. Enjoy the last days of summer.

Dr. Nick Polyak
