LOOKING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF VOLUNTEERS FOR THE COCHRAN'S SKI & RIDE PROGRAM!
We STILL need adult volunteers to help organize and run the program for about 45 students. We do NOT currently have enough Volunteers to run the program. This program can’t happen without volunteers! If interested please email Kate Myhre at: Katebissonette@gmail.com. The program might need to be canceled this year without enough volunteers.
Volunteers needed-
- Bus Riders- 3 Parents who will meet at HCS on all 6 ski & ride program days at 2:15 to ride to Cochrans and back to HCS from the mountain at 5:30.
Equipment Transportation- For 1/12 & 1/19 DATE ONLY This person would meet families for equipment drop-off in the lower parking lot from 7:30-8:10 am. Then they would transport all ski equipment to Cochran’s after school to meet the bus on the mountain at 2:50 pm. At the end of the program at 4:45 pm, all equipment will be returned to their truck to be transported back to HCS for family pick up.
Group Leaders- 8 Parents who can attend all 6 ski & ride program days and lead about 5-8 children. Parents would need to arrive at Cochran’s to meet the bus at 2:50.
Cochran’s Ski & Ride Program Open To:
HCS students in grades 1 through 5 and Kindergarten students (if accompanied by an adult).
PRINT, COMPLETE and RETURN this enrollment form by DEC 21th. (see pages 3 and 4 for the form)
When: Thursdays, 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 pm (return to HCS by 5:30 pm)
Dates: January, 5, 12, 19, 26 & February 2 & 9. The bus leaves HCS at 2:30 and returns to HCS for pick up at 5:30.
Cost: The total cost will be $75.00. The Cochran's fee is $50.00 per student plus *$25.00 for round trip bus transportation from HCS. For Cochran's season ticket holders, only the transportation charge of $25.00 is required. The cost above is based on 45 children enrolled. Cochran's after school ski and snowboard program is an 8 week program. In order to keep costs down HCS is offering the bus transportation for 6 weeks.
Students are entitled to 2 additional Thursday afternoons at Cochran's after the regular 6 week after-school program ends (2/16 & 2/23). There will be no charge for ski/riding tickets on those two additional Thursdays. Please note: Bus transportation and parent volunteers will not be provided for those additional two Thursdays.
Rental Equipment:
Ski or snowboard equipment including boots may be rented from Cochran's for $20 for the entire winter season. A rental fitting session has been scheduled at Cochran's for Thursday, Dec 29th at 6 pm or email Cochran’s to set up another date/time (802) 434-2479).
Volunteers:
The After School Ski/Ride Program at Cochran's ski area is run by parents and other volunteers. Parents coordinate the program, assist and generally help out at the slopes. Both skier/snowboarding and non-skier parents/volunteers are welcome. The success of the program is dependent on the participation of additional parents and other volunteers. Even if you don’t ski or snowboard, volunteers on foot are super helpful, especially in the beginning!!! Parents who volunteer can ski/ride free on Thursdays. To help please sign up below.
Attending the program independently:
Having your child attend the Cochran’s ski and ride program without your attendance is a privilege, not a right. If your child cannot safely meet a basic independence level required to attend the program you will be asked to join and support them or choose to withdraw them without a refund. Kindergarten students must be accompanied by an adult.
Equipment Drop off:
Parents will need to bring ski/riding equipment to school each Thursday morning 7:30-8:10. All poles and skis/boards must be placed in a truck, parked in the lower parking lot. Students should pack boots and snow gear in their backpacks to put on before boarding the bus. Please do not bring poles, ski/boards on the bus to school. PLEASE LABEL EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WITH CHILDS NAME & PHONE NUMBER.
Pick up:
Parents are responsible for picking up their children at HCS by 5:20/30 pm by the
Community School office.
Checks should be made out to Hinesburg Community School. PLEASE PUT THE CHILD'S NAME/S IN THE MEMO.
If the cost of the program is preventing you from enrolling your child/ren, please contact the office
directly before Dec 20th to discuss scholarship options.
**The cost for the bus transportation has not been confirmed, cost could change**
**The cost for the bus transportation is based on 45 kids being enrolled.**

PRESCHOOL LOTTERY IS NOW OPEN FOR 2023-2024!
CVSD Early Education Programs News
The CVSD Early Education Program is now accepting applications for a random preschool lottery drawing for the 2023-24 school year. This lottery is for an opportunity to enroll in one of our school-based classrooms which run 10 hours per week. Our school-based preschool classrooms are 5 STARs, licensed early education programs that provide play-based, developmentally appropriate environments for all children in an inclusive setting. Our curriculum is based on the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS).
Our programs follow the CVSD school calendar. Children who will be age 3 or older by September 1, 2023, who have not enrolled in kindergarten, and live in the communities of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George, and Williston are eligible to enter the lottery. Families who are selected for the lottery and choose to enroll their child in a CVSD program access their Act 166 publicly funded pre kindergarten funds for the school-based program.
All applications must be received by February 3, 2023, and are located on the CVSD Early Education website under 2023-2024 Preschool Lottery . Paper applications are available upon request.
For additional information, questions about our program, or any concerns about your child’s development, please visit our website or contact Director of Early Education, Erin Gagne at egagne@cvsdvt.org. Our Early Education team is also available for developmental screenings in the areas of communication, social-emotional development, motor skills, adaptive development, and cognition.
MEET THE BEAST FROM THE EAST!
K-8 students made name suggestions for the new 'chariot' that keeps our floors clean. The custodial staff chose from finalists including: Easy Rider, Sweeping Beauty, Big Bob, Optimus Grime, and Beast From the East. The names were drawn from a hat and now we have a new 'BEAST' in town!
CVSD BUDGET DEVELOPMENT
CVSD invites all community members to learn about and join in on the budget development process by attending upcoming School Board meetings. All members of the CVSD community are always welcome to attend Board meetings. See the topics and schedule in the image above and on the Budget page of the district's website. https://www.cvsdvt.org/budget
Links to join the virtual meetings will be available on that page and on the website calendar. We will also post the presentations on the Budget page afterward for those that cannot attend.
