Remembrance Day

On November 10th we will be having our virtual assembly in honour of Remembrance Day at 12:00 p.m. We encourage all of our families to find a moment to remember those who gave their lives serving our country.

Parent Teacher Conferences November 9

This year Parent Teacher conferences will be held by email or phone on Thursday, November 9th. Parents/guardians will be able to sign up for a 15 minute appointment.

Appointments can be made using your Parent Portal account until November 8th.


Log In to Parent Portal

On the Navigation Bar (left side) select Parent Teacher Meetings

Next to Select Appointment use the drop down box to choose your appointment time

Click the blue Book Appointment button

If you have any questions please feel free to email your child's teacher.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be Friday, November 13th right after O'Canada until the photographers have gone through the students requesting retakes. Please advise your students homeroom teacher if you wish your child to have retakes.

If your child does not attend Kindergarten that day, please bring them to the front office at 9:00 a.m. and we will escort them to the gym to have the picture taken.

Time Machine Book Fair

Our Book Fair is going virtual this year! You can shop from the comfort of your own home using our special Southwood School link from November 2nd through November 15th.

Items will be shipped directly to your home! Visit the school website for more information!

Proceeds from our book fair go to support our library and school extra curricular activities.

Ned Show - NED's Mindset Mission

On November 19th we are live streaming the NED Show to the whole school! NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best! NED's Mindset Mission helps children discover the benefits of having a positive mindset.

Students will learn:

- The Power of Yet - If you're not good at something, it just means you're not good at it yet.

- How to spark courage in others

- How to keep learning and growing, even when they think they already know something

Report Cards

We would like to remind parents that Term 1 Report Cards will be sent out this month. They will be available on the Parent Portal at 9 am on November 25, 2019. Please contact the office for information on how to get your Parent Portal account set up!

Christmas Caring Project November 12 - 26

We would like to thank you for your support with Drive Away Hunger last month. We have another caring project that we would like to share with you!

We are planning to help out the Steinbach Community Christmas by collecting items to fill their hampers that will be delivered before Christmas.

We have two projects planned.

The first is a toy drive which is for all students Kindergarten - Grade Four. We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children newborn to 17 years old ( no toy guns please ).

As well, we will be holding another food drive to help fill the Christmas hampers. We have decided to divide the items and ask house color to collect specific items.

We will be collecting the items from November 12 - November 26.

Pink Flamingos

Cake mixes, cookies, juice boxes

Green Gators

Boxed or canned soup, pasta, pasta sauce, kraft dinner, sidekicks rice or pasta

Purple Panthers

Crackers, cheez whiz, household cleaners, garbage bags

Yellow Yakity Yaks

Porridge, cream of wheat, cereal, pancake mix, pancake syrup

Red Rockets

Ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, cooking oil, canned corn, canned fish or meat

Blue Coyotes

Baby formula, diapers, wipes, baby food, baby crackers, ivory snow laundry detergent

Orange Orangutans

Dish soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, hand soap, tooth paste, toothbrushes, deodorant

If you are able to participate, please send the items to school with your child. Thank you kindly for your support!

Christmas This Year Will Be A Little Different

Unfortunately we will not be able to have our usual Christmas concert but we are working on a way for us to recognize the season in the school. More information in the coming weeks.

Christmas Card Fundraiser

This Fall, many of our classes at Southwood have been busy creating artwork for the Eco Art House Card Fundraiser. Eco Art House is a company that turns your child's artwork into a beautiful set of art cards that are printed on paper that is FSC certified recycled paper. If your child's classroom participated, an information sheet will be sent home with your child that will give you a sneak peek at what their card will look like. It will also give you their individual design code which you can enter in at the Eco Art House site in order to purchase card sets. Purchases must be made by November 9th for this unique school fundraising opportunity.
