Social Studies/Estudios Sociales
Sr. Bethencourt, 6th grade/Sexto
We finished working and studying about Geography basics and now we are going to put that into practice with a small dab of imagination! The students will start creating their own country which will feature every physical and political characteristic that a nation should have, map, borders, capital, flag, currency…everything!
Sra. Viteri, 7th grade/Séptimo
During this month, students will learn about the first city-states in Mesopotamia. We will learn about the problems that the earliest settlements faced on how their solutions led to developing city-states. Students will compare the civilization of Sumeria with Framingham and they will be able to describe the elements that make a civilization. Also, we will learn about the Code of Hammurabi. This first code of laws is very different from the rules and laws of modern society. Students will engage in a Socratic Seminar to discuss the impact of laws in ancient and modern societies.
Sr. Calixto, 8th grade/Octavo
We just finished our unit on the geography and economy of the 13 original colonies. Students presented a project on the colony of their choice to research. We will begin our unit on the American Revolution starting next week. See the student's project below.
Spanish Language Arts/ Artes del lenguaje en español
6th grade/Sexto
Students have finished their recipes and enjoyed learning about the Spanish-speaking culture through their dishes. They worked hard to record videos of their recipes on a Green Screen. Soon we will start our Identity unit, in which they discover who they are as sixth graders and how they have changed since they were in elementary school.
7th grade/Séptimo
Grade 7 students finished their research on a Spanish-speaking artist and created their book in Bookcreator using audio. To conclude the unit dedicated to the Celebration of Hispanic Heritage, students wrote a creative story based on a mural by Diego Rivera. Each student focused on one section of the mural to create their story. The stories are great and you can see a sample by clicking on the link. We'll be starting our next unit soon.

AP Spanish students have been collaborating by completing discussion forums in preparation for the essays that begin in the second term. Term 1 is about to finish and we are heading to more deep readings in combination with audio reports and articles. You’ll see a lot of paper coming with the practice exam, don’t be alarmed it’s part of the dynamics of the class.
Many thanks to the parents for the support provided in the cultural comparisons, mmm… la comida. This task is presentational speaking. The work and presentations have been great.
Advanced Contemporary Spanish Literature Honors (Pre AP) (11th and 12th grade) Literatura Contemporánea Avanzada en español
AP Spanish Literature and Culture (12th) AP Literatura y Cultura en Español
AP Seminar in Spanish/ AP Seminario en espanol
After choosing one of these focus areas of study, students will move through “QUEST” cycles and a Mock PT1. They will refine and answer the questions they ask by synthesizing sources into an IRR (Individual Research Report), with accurately cited sources and an annotated bibliography in MLA Format. Then, students will work in groups to synthesize their combined IRRs, evaluating each other's sources and creating a single, purposeful line of reasoning to present in a TMP (Team Multimedia Presentation).
To create a solution for the TMP, the teams will research the stakeholders and researchers to craft research questions that will address a current challenge facing Puerto Rico. We will then research the causes of these problems, posit potential solutions that consider the positions of various stakeholders, and project the possible consequences of implementing each of them.
