Lenten Diversity Dinners at Saint Lawrence
Weekly Update
This has been an exceptional week at Saint Lawrence. Illness has run rampant all over the school, especially among teachers. Several teachers missed many days this week. First of all, I hope that everyone can take the time over the weekend to rest and relax so we can come back ready to go on Monday, students and teachers. Second, I really want to express my appreciation for all of the teachers that sacrificed a lot this week to help make this week a valuable learning week for your children. They stepped up in a big way. It wasn't just teachers, however. I also would like to thank Megan Smith for volunteering to come in for the day on Wednesday to help cover a class. This week is a reminder of just how valuable teamwork is.
We have a lot going on starting Monday at Saint Lawrence. IRead 3 begins Monday. We have a one hour late start on Monday (doors open at 8:25). Body safety classes are Monday. The principal for the day raffle begins on Monday and will continue for the 3 Mondays in March.
Father Beechem dress down day is back to Monday next week. Remember it is $1 if you have not already paid for all of the days. Also, starting March 6th, we will be having a raffle for our Principal for the Day prize with all of the proceeds going towards the Father Beechem Scholarship Fund. Raffle tickets are $1. There is no limit on how many can be bought. We will be selling tickets on the 3 Mondays in March with the winner getting to be the "principal" on Thursday, March 23rd.
2nd and 3rd grade will be taking the required IRead test from March 6-17. Grades 3-8 will be taking the ILearn from April 17-May 12.
Both of these tests are required by the state. The dates listed are the test window dates. Your child will not be testing all of those days, but this is when they start and end. We will release a schedule to you as soon as we are able to of when your child will be testing. It is important to make sure that your child is here on each of the days that there is testing. Please do not schedule doctor appointments or high school shadow visits and make sure your child is on time to school during the testing window.

Believe it or not, registration for the 2023-2024 school year will begin on March 13th! Are you ready?
Is your child on academic or conduct probation?
Are you behind on your tuition payments?
If the answer to either of these questions is "yes", there is still time to get into good standing so your child can be accepted as a student next year. You should have received a letter from Mr. Maxson if any of these concerns are relevant to your family.
All good to go?
1. Start planning to apply for financial aid for next year. Get those 2022 Federal Taxes ready!
2. Start saving up for your registration fee (if Kindergarten through 8th grade).
March 13th - registration for 2023-24 will begin
April 3rd - If good to go, your student will be "pending accepted" and Mrs. Handley will send out the letters about your registration fee and applying for financial aid.
May 5th - registration fees and financial aid forms are due
May 12th - registration will close (some classes may be closed before that if full)
June 12th - registration will reopen for those classes that are not full
July 28th - registration will close - no more registrations will be accepted until after school begins
**Please note that Kids Care will also open registration on March 13th, but their process is different and Ms. Kathryn will let you know your next steps after you register.
The Spring PFO Flower and Trash Bag Sale is coming soon!
We will be taking orders for flowers this year along with trash bags. This is a change from the past few years. Order forms will be coming home with students next week and will be due before Spring Break.
If anyone would like to volunteer with the sale in anyway, please send a message to Megan Smith. 317-910-7216.
Kids Heart Challenge
We are still accepting donations to the American Heart Association in honor of a loved one with heart disease. A few dollars helps support their important work. Please return your donation in the envelope sent home last week. Thank you!

Altar Servers needed for Lenten Stations of the Cross and Weekend Masses
Fr. Vinny is asking for students to be altar servers for the Friday Stations of the Cross during Lent. Any student that went through mass training may attend and help.
Stations of the Cross start Friday February 24th and continue each Friday until March 31st. Altar servers should arrive at 5:15pm. They will last about an hour. These will be in English and in Spanish.
Fr. Vinny also needs additional servers for the weekend masses. Any student that has been trained is welcome to serve at the Saturday 5:00pm, Sunday 9:00am, or 12:00 noon English masses or the 6:00pm (Spanish) mass. Please arrive 15 minutes early to mass.
Please contact Megan Smith by text or email (in English or Spanish) if you have questions or to be put on the schedule for either the Stations of the Cross or weekend masses. Thank you!
New! "A la carte menu" for students in grades 5-8
This semester we will begin offering our older students with heartier appetites the opportunity to purchase extra menu items in addition to the free lunch meal they already receive. A second entree, an extra carton of milk, extra servings of fruit and side dish grains (pasta, rice, bread) will be offered for purchase on select days. For example, today several students bought Bosco Breadsticks. Extra vegetables, including salad will be offered free of charge. Please note all breakfast and lunch meals will continue to be provided at no charge to the student.
These "a la carte" purchases will be charged to each student's lunch account. If your student makes a purchase, you will receive an email notification with their account balance every Friday. If you do NOT want your student to buy extra food, please email me at kprechtel@saintlawrence.net and I will mark their account for no extra purchases. We do not accept cash in the lunch line so send payments with cash or a check to the school in an envelope marked "lunch money" and with your students name so it can be credited to your lunch account. Email me at kprechtel@saintlawrence.net if you have questions!
Bishop Chatard High School News
What is Bishop Bruté Days?
It is a retreat for young men, who will be in grades 9-12 the following school year, who are seeking to grow closer to Christ, and who may be open to the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood. The retreat gives young men the opportunity to spend three days with the Bishop Bruté college seminarians learning about prayer, service, scripture, and the awesome gift of our Catholic faith. It usually fills up quickly and space is limited.
Eucharistic Revival
One of the great things happening at Saint Lawrence Catholic School is our participation in the National Eucharistic Revival. This year, we have had a few holy hours of adoration as a school in which we spend time with the presence of Jesus. Recently, the US bishops discerned that it was our Mother Mary, under the title Our Lady of Guadalupe, who would be the patroness of the National Eucharistic Revival. As we get ready to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe this weekend and Monday, the timing could not have been better.
In addition, Blessed Carlo Acutis is the patron of the Year of Parish Revival! Blessed Carlo Acutis is a millennial who is on his path to sainthood and is already considered to be the "Patron Saint of the Internet". We studied him in one of our morning meetings as a saint of the day. This is an exciting time for the church.
