Letter from the Principal
I cannot believe we are already into December! There has been so much happening at all of our GMC schools and it is visible throughout the classrooms and in the hallways. I want to share this celebration of learning with our families and take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and partnership in fostering a positive and enriching learning environment for our students.
Our Winter Break will begin on December 22nd this year and all the learning and growing will continue into the new year with school resuming on January 3rd. Since there has been so much happening already, your child deserves to enjoy the break! However, please continue to support them by reading throughout the time off.
With the winter weather, comes the cold and flu season as well. Please be sure to remind your child to practice careful hand washing and to not share water bottles, etc. If your student is sick, please make sure to contact the office and have them stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. We want to try hard to keep illness to a minimum!
One final note, while the Holiday Season is a time of fun and celebration, it can also be a time of challenge. If you or any family you know is having a difficult time providing winter gear, toys, or food, please contact your child’s teacher or building social worker for support and resources.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. Wishing you and your family a joyful December filled with love, laughter, and memorable moments.
All parents want their child to do well in school. One way to help your child is to help them build their vocabulary. Beginning readers use knowledge about words to help them make sense of what they're reading. The more words a reader knows, the more they are able to comprehend what they're reading or listening to.
Talking to and reading with your child are two terrific ways to help them hear and read new words. Conversations and questions about interesting words are easy, non-threatening ways to get new words into everyday talk. Here are some common vocabulary words we are using at school:
- December 19th - Fish House Drawing
- December 21st - Andes Ski Trip (Grades 3rd-5th)
- December 22nd thru January 2nd - Christmas Break
- January 24th thru January 30th - Skatetime
