Home Activities From Your Educators
Jr. Preschool- Animals & Animal Homes
Dear Jr. Preschool Families,
This week we invite you to explore the ocean and the animals in it! Use the following ideas from your child's classroom or create your own!
Create Coral!
Use Play Doh and allow your Jr Preschooler to press straws or pipe cleaners into the dough! Want to add more? Allow them to add pictures of fish, count 8 fish in the coral or add dry noodles for fine motor development!
(Art, Shape and color and number of the month: Circle, Blue, 8)
Ocean Art!
Paint a blue ocean! You can add any ocean animals you'd like- Don't forget to count them when you are done!
Discuss and Record
What lives in the ocean? Record your child's answers or read a book to find out! This allows children to share knowledge, learn to search for information & understand that spoken word, written word and illustrations correlate!
Animal Sort!
You can do this anyway you want! Gather all your toy animals- even the stuffed ones and sort them! Where do they live?
Smooth or Bumpy? Big or Small?
Play and explore shells with your child and sort them into fun scientific groups!
YAY FOR WATER PLAY!
Using two small bowls and a sponge, allow your child to soak up water then squeeze it out in the empty bowl. Do this until the original bowl is empty! This activity is not only fun, but also works on hand-eye coordination, scientific thinking and the muscle control needed in your hand for pre-writing activities!
