Orana Catholic Primary School
Term 2, Week 1, 2023
TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
FOCUS SCHOOL VALUE FOR 2023: RESPECT
Our community values an attitude of caring deeply about people and treating them with dignity. We care about ourselves and the world around us. Respect is evident when:
• we treat others as we want to be treated
• we express feelings in a peaceful way
• we speak courteously to everyone
• we bring honour to ourselves, our families and our school
• we recognise the achievements of each person
• we build positive relationships
• we show equal justice and fairness
ANZAC Prayer
Gracious and loving God,
The cross of Christ is the sign of your desire for justice and peace for all.
Open our minds to your vision as we remember all who suffered through Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Grant all servicepersons who sacrificed health and life for the good of all, the gift of your deep peace.
May we who inherit the freedom for which they fought become instruments of your peace in our homes, workplaces and world.
We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to school for Term 2! We hope you had a wonderful Easter holiday break and students are now refreshed and ready to continue learning.
Thank-you to parents for setting up your children for success by arriving on time, with all necessary equipment. Supervision commences at 8.30am; classes open at this time to allow time for students to unpack and be prepared for the day. There is no supervision before 8.30am.
Term Planning
Academic communication for this term will include posting term overviews on Seesaw, progress conversations prior to reporting for students receiving D and E grades and formal reports. If you have any queries, please contact your children's class teachers. This term, staff have many exciting learning activities and events planned, including excursions and incursions. Amongst other learning opportunities, we will also host the Year 6 camp, Numero workshops and the Year 4 students will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Staff Professional Development
Staff started the term with a day on coaching, presented by Growth Coaching International. Together we learnt about a model of coaching that can be used for individual and collective growth to benefit our students and serve our families and community.
ANZAC Liturgy
On Wednesday, the Year 6 classes led the ANZAC liturgy. This was an informative and moving commemoration to those that have and are serving our country. Initially, ANZAC Day was a commemoration of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli on the 25th April, 1915. Today, we honour and reflect on the impact of war, conflict and peacekeeping operations in Australia’s history and pray for those involved in wars, their families and for peace. Thank-you to Mrs Lynda Packer, Father CJ and the Year 6 students for preparing and coordinating the liturgy.
Francis of Assisi House Mass
Today we celebrated the Francis of Assisi House Mass. Congratulation to Preston, Carmela, Josh and Flynn. These students received the inaugural Francis Awards for demonstrating the characteristics of St Francis in daily school life. All students in Francis celebrated their House Day with an icy pole extra play time. Thank-you to Father CJ for celebrating Mass. Thank-you to Kathryn Alp, Denise Mouttet, Monica Fernando and the Francis staff for working together on making this a special Mass.
Thanksgiving Mass for Lyn Perrigo
This Mass was also a Thanksgiving Mass for the service of Mrs Lyn Perrigo to our school community. Mrs Perrigo has worked at Orana for 32 years and has had a significant impact on generations of our Orana students and their families. She has shared her passion for education and expertise with many classes of children over the years. Mrs Perrigo has been instrumental in several initiatives for Orana over the years including establishing and maintaining our Apple Distinguished status; working with teams on the school values program and school production; as well as preserving the story of Orana and coordinating the most recent reunion, to name a few. Congratulations to Lyn on her many achievements and best wishes to her and her family.
2024 Kindy Interviews
Kindy interviews for 2024 commence next week. If you would like your child to have a place in Kindergarten for next year and have not yet put in an application form in, you will need to do so as soon as possible.

SOCIAL WORKER NEWS
Community Connections for Children
Why community connections are good for children
When your child is connected to extended family, family friends and people in their neighbourhood and community, they have:
- a sense of belonging to a place and community
- opportunities to learn about getting along with others
- people to go to when they need help
- a network they can use to learn about different jobs, skills and so on.
Strong social connections can also boost your child’s confidence and lead to new friendships.
Different community connections have different benefits for your child.
Kind Regards
