Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ April 13, 2018
From Mrs. Davies
I hope you and your families had an enjoyable spring break!
I wanted to share some news with all of you. Last week, I was notified that our school has been identified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a High Achieving School for 2018. Only 24 schools in the state have received this honor. To meet criteria for this award schools must meet the state's test participation, attendance, and drop out goals as measured on the state report card. Additionally, schools of high achievement must have achievement gaps of less than 3 percent between student groups, or show evidence of reducing gaps. High achieving schools must also demonstrate high achievement school-wide across all content areas.
I am incredibly proud of our teachers and their dedication to the students at Stone Bank. Please join me in thanking them for their hard work the next time you visit us!

Wrapping Up I Love to Read Month 2018
We had so much fun celebrating books and reading in a variety of ways throughout the month of March! You may have seen this year's video on the Stone Bank website, or our Facebook page. It was based on the book The Good for Nothing Button by Charise Mericle Harper. Mrs. Brannan sent the video to the author and received this reply,
“The video is Fantastic! I’m so honored. I love it! I posted it on my Facebook page. I can see that it was a lot of work. The students did a great job with the acting and someone did some nice work with sound effects and editing. So impressed. Hello to your talented students!"
We also held a month long reading contest and as a school we read for a total of 130,852 minutes in just one month! All those minutes are in addition to what teachers expect students to read in the classroom. Here are this year’s top classrooms and readers:
Top Classrooms 2018:
6th Grade: 20,184 minutes
Mrs. Johnston’s 5th Grade: 17,693 minutes
Mr. Lindee’s 4th Grade: 12,696 minutes
Mrs. Leonard’s 3rd Grade: 10,293 minutes
Mrs. Sedlachek’s Kindergarten: 9543 minutes
Top Readers 2018:
Kjersti Warwick (8th Grade): 7992 minutes
James Bakar (5th Grade): 5280 minutes
Rachel Wieland (6th Grade): 4500 minutes
Eden Swedberg (3rd Grade): 3892 minutes
Abigail Krahe (7th Grade): 3540 minutes
Thank you to all who participated in activities throughout the month and helped to make it a true celebration of reading.
