A Message from Mr. Kampmann
This past month we have continued to highlight a word of the week in our morning announcements. Our goal is that by discussing these topics as a school we are teaching character traits and soft skills that will help prepare our students to be active and engaged citizens and better prepared to be successful in what ever they choose to do later in life.
In the upcoming weeks we plan to discuss the following topics:
Week of March 1st -Optimism
Week of March 8th- Courage
Week of March 15th- BeingTrustworthy
Week of March 22nd- Fairness
Continuing conversations on these themes at home helps reinforce what we are discussing at school and provides a great time to share your familys beliefs and values as well.

NEWS FROM MRS BRECKE
MINDFUL Mondays are here at Riverside!
Join Mrs. Brecke and on Monday morning announcements as she does a brief explanation of how we can become more mindful.
HOW TO EXPLAIN MINDFULNESS TO KIDS:
Mindfulness is simply… being aware…
noticing what is happening “right now.”
Mindfulness is taking notice of how your body feels and what you see, smell/ taste and touch. Maybe you even feel emotions in your body through a tightness somewhere – neck, shoulders, hands…
Mindfulness is also noticing what your mind is doing.
What happens when you start noticing these experiences?
When our kids notice what is happening around them, they are able focus better, and that attention can help them to calm down when they are sad, angry or frustrated. Mindfulness can help kids deal with big emotions, making it easier to work through tough feelings and situations.
Here are some of the good thing’s mindfulness can bring to our life:
• Mindfulness helps us create space between the emotions we
feel and the actions we use to respond to them.
• Mindfulness helps us focus.
• Mindfulness can help us feel better emotionally and physically.
If you would like studies to show more about mindfulness, this is a great resource: as thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness. Benefits such as;
• decreased stress and anxiety
• improved health, better sleep
• improved focus and awareness, better problem solving
• improved impulse control, stronger relationships
• increased compassion and kindness
Open Enrollment Reminder
Application period for the 2021 - 2022 school year is February 1 – April 30, 2021. Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend a school district other than the one in which they live. The DPI web site to complete an on-line application is https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. This web site will open on February 1, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. and close on April 30, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
Parents must complete an online application no earlier than February 1, 2021, and no later than April 30, 2021 by 4:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.
At this time, once a student is accepted to attend D.C. Everest under open enrollment, the student may continue to attend the district without having to reapply every year.
