"Be a gift of love and compassion for one another."
St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back everyone to the start of Term 3. I hope that you all had a restful break and enjoyed the holidays. However, I am quite sure that are a number of families who are now enjoying some peace and quiet at home during school hours. We have a very busy term ahead and many of our students are involved in the Catholic Education Performing arts throughout this term.
We welcome a number of new families to the school. I know that they will be made welcome by exiting school families.
Families please note that you will need to adhere to the school parking policy and the street verge signage. Parking is not permitted in ‘no standing or parking‘ zones and cars that do not follow the street and verge signage face a possible fine from the Ranger. Also, please do not park across resident’s drive ways. Your help in this matter will be very much appreciated.
I will be away next week at a Principal’s meeting at CEWA and at the WA Catholic Primary Principal’s Conference. Mrs Komnick and Mrs Robinson will be in charge while I am away.
A P&F meeting will be held next Tuesday 30 July in the school staff room.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday 27 September and Friday 30 August is a pupil free day.
Have a great term.
God bless.
Allen McMahon
Principal

Wriggly Worms in Kindy
WOW . . . did you know that the largest earthworm ever found was over 22 foot long, they breathe through their skin and that can eat paper and hair?
Following on from our study of recycling and how things grow in Term 2, we started this term with an incursion from The Worm Shed. We learnt all about how worms are important for our environment, and then had a hands on activity to make our own worm farms which the children will eventually take home. We particularly enjoyed looking for worms and investigating them with magnifying glasses.
Scholastic Book Club
Scholastic Book Club catalogues have been sent home with students this week. Orders are due no later than Monday 5 August. Please note late orders cannot be accepted. Credit card payments need to be made via LOOP.
Thank you to Mrs Shaw for coordinating the Book Club for our school.
Art Meets Science In Lego Challenge
Lego has been the common focus in our Science and Art Week projects, with amazing drawings to match the creativity and ingenuity of the structures built.
Limited Spots in Year Groups for 2020 – Apply Now
We have a few spots available next year in classes other than Kindy – if you know of families moving to the area or looking for a change, please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible: call (08) 6436 9500 or email admin@stcolumbassp.wa.edu.au
Adding Up the Waste
Our Year 6 and Year 3B classes have conducted a waste audit to determine how much we are throwing away each day and year. Food scraps are having the biggest impact on our waste disposal here at St Columba's. Our Waste Wise team are now working on a plan to reduce our school waste. Well done Kindy on a great start with worm farms!
