Y.E.S. Celebrates Military Families
April 2021
April is the Month of the Military Child!
During the month of April, Yorktown Elementary School will take the time to celebrate our military-connected students and families. Information is included below to detail the month's observances, including a military family "video" parade and Purple Up Day! We hope that you will join us in this month's celebration of our falcon families whose members serve or have served in the armed forces.

Supporting Military-Connected Students!
Did you know that Yorktown Elementary School has students whose families serve in all of the branches of the armed forces? We are proud of this fact and want to say thank you for your service! Throughout the month of April, students will have an opportunity to contribute to a Month of the Military Child Bulletin Board! Students who are military-connected may choose to write or draw about what it is like to be a military-connected student. Students who are not military-connected may choose to write a note of support and encouragement for our military-connected falcons! These notes and drawings will be collected and posted in the hallway at Y.E.S.
Yorktown Elementary Partnership in Education with the U.S. Coast Guard
Lieutenant Jesse Wallace shared the following information about the event:
Please join us for the U.S. Coast Guard’s very first “Bring Your Children to OUR Work Day”!
The U.S. Coast Guard is inviting you to Bring Your Children to OUR Work Day on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
Each video is just 3-5 minutes, so you can easily include one (or more!) into your existing classroom plans. Our active duty military members will welcome kids aboard for fun activities that highlight careers in Science, Technology, Art and Math (STEAM).
Here are just some of the many “hands-on” opportunities we’re planning:
Learn to read the weather
Collect an oil sample
Frost the perfect cupcake
Fix an airplane
Land a helicopter
Become a rescue swimmer
Participation is free, and you don’t need to pre-register. You can join us in two ways:
Interactive: Visit www.facebook.com/UScoastguard. Kids can interact with Coast Guard members during and after each video, by sharing their thoughts and questions in the comments section. We’ll do our best to respond to every question!
Videos: Visit the “Bring Your Child to OUR Work Day” website at https://www.mycg.uscg.mil/WorkDay/ anytime on April 22. For more info, visit https://www.mycg.uscg.mil/WorkDay/
Would your military-connected child enjoy participating in a small group with other students?
