Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year
Welcome back to all of our students and parents! We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. Here in the OVHS Counseling Office, we have been busy working hard to make sure that the 2022-23 school year starts off right, especially for the Class of 2026.
Freshman Orientation was held on August 9th and 10th, 2022. Thanks to our dedicated and outgoing PAW Squad members, over 100 new high school students were able to learn about graduation requirements, high school clubs and community service opportunities. Freshman and New Students then teamed up with a PAW Squad member to 'walk' their class schedule without the typical hallway traffic and participate in a scavenger hunt.

Dual Enrollment
RACC and Alvernia University Dual Enrollment
Information about Dual Enrollment (DE) opportunities with Reading Area Community College and Alvernia University was/will be discussed at grade level assemblies the first two weeks of school. It is important to know that not all colleges accept dual enrollment credit. It is the responsibility of the student to reach out to colleges of interest for more information on college-specific transfer credits procedures.
*Students (Grades 9-12) must have at least a current 2.5 cumulative GPA to apply for dual enrollment. They must receive at least a C or higher in the course to earn the credit.
*Students must be currently enrolled in eligible OVHS courses for the 2022-2023 school year to qualify for RACC and Alvernia DE credits. If a student is enrolled in an eligible course during the Spring semester, they must still apply by the September deadline.
*Please see the list of qualifying courses in the packets attached below which also include more detailed information on costs, payment procedures and deadlines.
RACC DE Information:
The deadline to apply for RACC dual enrollment is September 30th.
RACC will bill parents directly for the cost of the courses. If your student's household income is less than $100,000, they are eligible to apply for a scholarship to help with the cost of RACC Dual Enrollment. The scholarship application is also due to the guidance office by September 30th.
Alvernia DE Information:
The deadline to apply for Alvernia University dual enrollment is September 12th.
OVHS pays upfront for the cost of these courses, so the family pays by check (made out to Oley Valley School district) with the registration paperwork, all due by September 12th.

Many colleges and universities use the Common App system, making it faster and easier for applicants applying to multiple institutions. Below is a brief, three minute video for parents and students on how to create a Common App account and match these two systems.

Aevidum
Aevidum is entering its second year at OVHS and we are hoping for even more student involvement this year. Students can be a part of Aevidum during designated club days and/or by participating in our many after-school activities and programming. The word Aevidum, which means “I’ve got your back,” was created by students to inspire schools and communities in adopting cultures of care and advocacy and encouraging all members to have their friends’ backs. Aevidum exists in nearly 300 elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges. http://aevidum.org/

OVHS SAP
SAP is a group of specially trained Oley Valley High School teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses and a liaison from Caron Foundation. This voluntary program offers supportive services to students experiencing academic, behavioral and or emotional difficulties that may pose barriers to school success.
The SAP team receives referrals from administrators, faculty, staff, parents/guardians and students themselves. The team assists students and their parents in addressing the areas of emotional wellbeing, substance dependancy, attendance/truancy, academic concerns, changes in behavior, personal problems, mental health concerns and other issues which cause a student to struggle in and out of school. Support services both in and outside of school are recommended by the SAP team, after working with the student and their families to determine the need for services.
All communication is confidential. No one other than the SAP team will know the students involved in this program.
