Weekly Newsletter- 6th Grade
September 27th-October 1st
Reminders for This Week
We hope that you had a great weekend!
Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, October 21st (after school) and Friday, October 22nd. We will be sending a sign-up for times in next week's newsletter.
Just a reminder ... If your child is participating in band or strings this year, band meets at 1:45 on A and C days and strings will meet at 1:45 on B and D days. We will try to note band/strings days weekly in the specials schedule area below.
Please send a reusable water bottle to school with your child. An extra mask in backpacks is helpful too, especially on hotter days or PE days. If your child has not brought headphones or earbuds for personal use, we're finding those helpful and will begin them daily with online textbooks soon.
September 27th- October 1st Learning
Math with Mr. Bush and Mrs. Seyer-
Core- We are finishing up our study of Unit 1: Rates, Ratios, Unit Rates and Percentages. We will review most of next week for deeper understanding and likely take our Unit 1 Assessment Thursday or Friday.
Integrated- We got a great start on dividing fractions by fractions this week and will continue our journey through Unit 2 next week with understanding how to plot ordered pairs in all 4 quadrants of a coordinate grid.
Writing and Science with Ms. Kohrs-
We are having fun building ziggurats as an end of Mesopotamia unit project. It involves a lot of popsicle sticks and glue and our ziggurat ramps will be tested as marble runs to add to the challenge.
In grammar this week, we'll focus on singular and plural nouns. We'll start our science unit on thermal energy too, learning about states of matter early in the week and then ways heat is transferred toward the end of the week. Lots of new learning this week! Science words for the week include: thermal energy, conduction, convection, radiation, temperature, and substances.
Reading with Mrs. Logan-
We will focus on the compare/contrast text structure this week, as well as Greek and Latin prefixes, and asking & answering questions. Please see the weekly vocabulary and spelling words below. We'll take a test on both of these on Friday.
