It's A Great Day To Be A Falcon!
Principal's Corner
We also know that receiving direct instruction through the screen for several hours straight is unhealthy for our young people. The research is clear that some direct instruction from teachers is beneficial for students, but too much of it actually inhibits engagement. And too much screen time is not good for anyone! This is why our model attempts to balance "synchronous" learning (opportunities to learn together as a part of a classroom community) and "asynchronous" learning (opportunities for students to learn on their own time and at their own pace). We feel that blending the two is the most equitable approach, the one that supports our commitment to overall student well-being, and allows for the most personalized learning experience for each student.
Please ensure that your child is participating in Connection Times each day. Our teachers care deeply about your child and want to see them! They will offer a short lesson, review, or activity that will typically last around 15 minutes. At that point, students will be given the option to stay on the Google Meet or leave to work at their own pace. The teacher however, will stay on the Google Meet for the full 50 minutes to continue to offer support for anyone who wants it. I know that this model isn't perfect, but we feel this personalized approach to learning is better than a one-size fits all approach.

Connections Time Participation Required Each Day During Distance Learning
See the picture below to view the Connections Time schedule for FHS students during Distance Learning. 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th period classes are held over Google Meet every Monday and Thursday. 2nd, 4th, and 6th period classes are held every Tuesday and Friday. These classes start at 9:00 AM on those days. The more students that attend, the richer the learning environment for everyone. We need all students to learn and to help other students learn. Please create expectations at your home for students to attend all classes. Links for these Google Meets can easily be found on each teacher's Schoology page. Call the FHS main office at 507-333-6100 if you have any trouble getting access or if you have questions.

Only Four Weeks Remain in 1st Semester
1st semester will come to an end on January 29th. Remember, semester grades are the ones that earn graduation credits, appear on an official transcript, and are calculated into a student's G.P.A. In other words, they are important! So your child has 4 weeks to work as hard as they can to earn the best grades they can. Even if they have struggled to this point, there is still time to improve and earn passing grades in all classes if they work hard. Reach out to teachers, stop by the school, or call the FHS Main Office at 507-333-6100 if your child needs any academic support.
