Thank you to Deanna Jones, Miranda Manley, Sheryl Johnson, Monica Young, Amy Flood, Latasshia Forney, Phyllis Burnside, Kelly Carlson, Alison Jones, Stephanie Turpin, and Kathy Boyadjian for all they did in the hallways, the rooms, front office and dealing with the testing books! It takes a team to make this work!
Book of the Week
How do some teachers manage to expertly engage students in deep learning, harmonize mandated standards with individual student needs, and create trusting relationships in the classroom? What typically sets these "Star Teachers" apart from other teachers?
The book is grounded in studies conducted and ideas developed over a half-century by educational theorist Martin Haberman, whose models are used in hundreds of school districts across the United States. It's designed to help you assess, develop, and reflect upon seven key dispositions of Haberman's Star Teacher framework:
2. Positive values about student learning
3. The ability to adapt general theories into pedagogical practices
4. An encouraging approach to students classified as at risk
5. A professional versus a personal orientation to learners
6. The ability to navigate school bureaucracy
7. A willingness to admit one's shortcomings
Full of insightful authentic examples, practical and ready-to-use strategies, and numerous suggested resources, What Makes a Star Teacher offers what every teacher—and every student—needs to thrive in any classroom.

Thank you for all your prayers and concern for my Mother during her DBS surgeries!
Update on Mother
We are starting surgery 2B which is to insert a lead on the right-hand side of her brain and this will happen Wednesday, May 1st. Surgery 2A was on the left-hand side and she was an awesome patient and the surgeon and her team could not stop talking about how great she did and her attitude, etc. Hopefully, on Wednesday you will have the same success as the first one which is our prayer!
Then, all that is left is May 9th to insert the battery pack in her chest and then we wait a month before turning it on.
Here is a funny for you if you know me well. I spent the night in the hospital with my Mother Wednesday night last week and the room "in my thinking" was 5 x 5 and was HOT! The chair/bed was horrible so obviously, I did not get much sleep with helicopters landing above us all night for the trauma unit in the hospital as well as my mother needing to get up all night to use the restroom due to the drip she was given to help with swelling in the brain. SO, at 4 am my mother is fully awake and starts to talk to me and she did not stop talking to me until around 11:00 am when they were FINALLY letting Mother check out of the hospital! Oh, my word! Words cannot describe this unless you know me and how I feel about incessant talking! So, I feel sure this will be the way it is again and I will just endure!
