FMS - Firebird Athletics Update
February 11, 2021
From the Athletic Director, Mrs. Forehand
Hello Firebird Nation Students and Families,
I am excited to announce we are going to begin an intramural sports program at Falcon Middle School! After much discussion with the other athletic directors in our league as well as in our district, the decision has been made not compete across schools/districts due to the health and safety concerns at this time. However, we at FMS feel how important it is for all our students to be able to participate in various activities still following the guidelines outlined by CHSSA as well as the EPCHD. Therefore, we have put our heads together with our coaches and come up with a plan for our students.
We will begin next week 2/16 with intramurals following the CHSSA seasons for High School, as best as we are able. Most of the sports will run two- or four-week seasons based on grade level to ensure we are keeping our cohorts safe. Times and dates will be different as well to include as many students/sports. Students must maintain academic eligibility requirements to participate. Below is a calendar of opportunities at this time. Potentially, other sports could be added.
February 16th- March 12th
Girls Basketball
Boys Basketball
Fitness Camp (fitness course in place of running wrestling. This will be a 4-week season for 7th/8th Grade students.)
March 29th-April 23rd
Girls Volleyball (7th/8th Grade will run during this season.)
Flag Football (7th/8th Grade only)
Fitness Camp (fitness course in place of running wrestling. This will be a 2-week season for 6th Grade students)
April 26-May 6
Girls Volleyball (6th Grade only)
Gridiron Warriors (6th Grade Football)
NOTE: We are hoping to include track and softball to our final season. At this time we are still waiting to hear back from the South Metro League on whether we will have competitions between the other districts.
Safety Guidelines for participation:
1. Every player is required to have a current physical uploaded into planet high school. The guide for creating an account can be found on our school website on the athletics page under Arbiter Athlete Parent/Student Account Creation Guide.
2. Monitoring player’s health and symptoms is required for participation. (Please if a student is not feeling well, keep the player home.)
3. Masks are required
4. No Locker Rooms will be available at this time.
5. Individual water bottles are required. (NO SHARING AT ALL)
6. Limited sharing of equipment
7. Sanitation of equipment throughout practice time.
8. Hand sanitizer will be utilized
Cost: $20.00
Due to the restrictions outlined by CHSSA and EPCHD, only 25 students will be allowed to participate per sport per grade level. This means that we can have 25 – 8th graders, 25 – 7th graders, and 25 – 6th graders for each opportunity listed. Participation will be based on a first come, first serve basis. Please use the sign-up link below. A wait list will be utilized if needed.
Please feel free to contact me or my Athletic Secretary, Mrs. Hughes, if you have any additional questions. Our contact information is included below.
We look forward to a successful athletic season! Go Firebirds!
Sincerely,
Elena Forehand
