Alsup Elementary Newsletter

September 2018

Messages from Principal Menard

On behalf of the entire Alsup staff, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2018/2019 school year! I am thrilled to step into the roll of Principal and I look forward to an exciting year ahead! In an ongoing effort to stay in constant communication with our community, I will be sending home monthly newsletters to inform everyone of the events and highlights at Alsup. This letter will sent via email and will also be available on our school website and Facebook page. Please take a moment to read through the newsletter as it will serve as an important tool for communication between our school and our community.

Relationships are a very important component to our success here at Alsup. I strive to develop critical relationships with my students, staff, and families. I also encourage and expect our staff to do the same. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our scholars need support from both the school and home. We recognize that a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your scholar's education. We encourage you to guide and support your child's learning by:

1) ensuring that your child is in school daily and arrives on time ready for the day ahead

2) ensuring that your child reads daily, at least 20 minutes each evening to help develop that

love of reading and to promote literacy skill practice.

3)Remains an active, participating student while in school

As with any new school year there are some important changes that I want to make sure everyone is aware of. Our school hours have adjusted a bit again this year. All elementary school hours are: 8:30-3:30 PM. Students may begin arriving to school at 8:20 AM. It is important that parents and students follow this rule as there is no supervision prior to 8:20 AM!

The bell schedule for Alsup is:

8:20 Students arrive on playground

8:25 Students line up

8:27 Students walk inside to classrooms

8:30 Breakfast and community time begins

Student safety is a top priority at Alsup, we will be providing crosswalk supervision beginning at 8:20 at the 4 crosswalk locations near Alsup. Please remind your students to use the crosswalks and go straight to the playground. As you are driving down Birch St, please be sure to follow all traffic laws and be mindful of the school zone!

I am very excited to continue my leadership at Alsup! Our scholars and staff continue to persevere and shine bright like diamonds! It is going to be an amazing year! Please, feel free to reach out to me at any time. I am here to serve our community and my door is always open!

Learning to SOAR

Alsup students have been hard at work learning to SOAR. Students have learned the expectations for being an Alsup student when in the hallways, the cafeteria, at assemblies or in their classroom. Please review these expectations with your students to help us all SOAR like Eagles at Alsup!
