3-5 Socratic Seminar Trainings
Close Reading, Critical Thinking & Dialogue Skills
We're excited to offer fall opportunities to begin or expand your work with the Socratic Seminar thinking strategy! Our goal is to build our collective understanding and support each other in implementing seminars in our classrooms. In all sessions, we will discuss how Socratic Seminar supports state literacy standards, as well as a balanced literacy approach, and we will share ways to use Benchmark Literacy materials as texts for seminars.
Lakeville middle and high schools are working to implement Socratic Seminar in English classes and AVID classes as well, and we are excited to introduce students to this thinking structure at the elementary level. Seminars empower students to read, think, and discuss at a high level through close reading and dynamic dialogue. We look forward to welcoming you to one of these opportunities!

I feel fantastic about Socratic Seminars! I enjoyed a workshop I attended in the past, but have not tried them in my classroom much yet. I'd like a refresher of skills to practice so that I can try it out this year.Microscope

I have implemented seminars, and would like to hear ideas from other educators who are using them. I would be interested in meeting with others to share ideas, and/or visiting people's classrooms to learn and discuss. Here's a Lakeville teacher in action!
