Spring Book Choice: The Invention of Wings

The Invention of Wings takes place in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1830's. Based on a true story, abolitionist sisters Sarah and Angelina Grimke champion the cause of equality for African American slaves and women.
Told in first person, the chapters alternate with the voices of Sarah Grimke and Hetty, a slave girl who was given as a present to Sarah on her 11th birthday. The novel brings to bear all the complexities, conflicts, tragedies and triumphs of early nineteenth century America that continue to resonate today.

To accomodate as many faculty, students, and community members as possible, we will be offering two book group sessions in the library:
Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 at 12 p.m.
Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 at 4 p.m.

The lunch time session will be a BYO/Pot Luck lunch.
