Falcon Newsletter
November 18, 2022 - Pinewood Elementary School
News and Updates:
- Inclement Weather/Driving Conditions - Please note that the Laurel and Polaris get very slick and icy when it snows. Your best bet is to take North Street (by the church) and turn left on Pine Street. Also, please make sure you are being respectful of our neighbors and driving slowly through the neighborhoods and parking lots surrounding our school.
- PTC - PTC is a group of families and staff members responsible for planning events and fundraisers for our schools. If you are interested in joining our PTC, you can reach out to Heather Minton, or attend the next meeting on January 12th at 2:45 in Room 2.
- Toys for Tots -- We have a Toys for Tots donation box in our front office. Families are encouraged to bring in a new, unwrapped toy to donate.
- Attendance Award - In order to encourage our students to attend school regularly, we are introducing a monthly class attendance award. At the end of each month, the class with the highest attendance rate will get to keep Atty the Attendance Falcon in their classroom for the month. October's winning class was Ms. Curtin's Class!
- Label Items - We are starting to get a large collection of lost and found items. Many items look similar and our students are not able to identify them at the end of the day. Please make sure to label anything your child may take off or set down during the day.
- Sharing Food - This is a reminder that we do not allow students to share food at school. Please reinforce this with your children at home. Thanks!
- Pinewood Wrestling Team - Wrestling for boys and girls of all ages starts Monday, November 28th at Sierra Ridge right after school. See flyer below for details.
- Pinewood's Holiday Shop (PTC) - This year we will be offering a Lil' Shopper's Shoppe where students can purchase holiday gifts for their family. See flyer for details. PTC is also looking for people to help set up, tear down, and run the shop. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up using the sign up genius below.
- Appropriate Clothing - Now that we have snow on campus, please make sure to send your children with appropriate cold weather clothing. Many of our students want to play in the snow. We allow students to play in the snow as long as they have appropriate clothing such as snow boots and gloves.
Second Step Monthly Focus:
This month, our schoolwide theme is skills for learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners.
Please tell your child’s teacher if you’d like more suggestions about supporting skills for learning at home.
Second Step Weekly Focus:
