Student Technology
Student Technology Survey Results
What Are Our Students Saying About Technology:
Mrs. Skeen recently conducted a student survey on the use of technology in the classrooms. Here are the findings that I thought you would find useful and interesting.
- Majority of students want more teachers to use devices for quizzes and tests
- They want more teachers to use Google Classroom
- They want teachers to give them a "heads up" when they are going to use the devices in class.
Using Technology In The Classroom
Options For Classroom Quizzes/Tests
- Kahoot: We've demonstrated and known that the students enjoy Kahoot. Kahoot has added some new features that make it even more competitive. Create a fun learning game in minutes, manufactured from a series of multiple choice questions. Add videos, images, and diagrams to your questions to amplify engagement. Check it out at getkahoot.com
- Quizzizz: Like Kahoot but you can start a "live" game in class, or assign a Quizizz as a homework tasks. You control the competition by toggling the leader board, timer, and other settings. Students play together but each at their own pace. Provides detail class and student level reports to understand where your students need help. Check it out at Quizizz.com
- Formative: This platform takes you beyond multiple choice - with Formative students can type, show their work, and submit images. It allows for real-time intervention. It has an outstanding test bank, but you can also create your own. All can be aligned to Texas Standards, and it provides instant feedback.
Google Classroom
Currently, we have several teachers on staff who are using Google Classroom, and their response has been quite positive. Here are some of the latest additions to Google Classroom:
- Automatically keep parents and guardians in the loop with email summaries
- Draw, write on, and highlight documents in mobile apps
- Add topics to post, and filter the stream by topics
- Preview documents, PDFs, images, and videos within classroom
Tools To Get Students Talking - Find Out What They Are Thinking !
Some Technology Tools to Get Student Talking
We know the importance of getting students to verbalize their thoughts and learning, but at times that can be difficult for all sort of reasons. Here are a few technology tools that might be useful to consider:
- Socrative - one many of our teachers have used in the past - not seeing too much of it today. Socrative quickly allows assessment of students and also asks questions on the fly, and is a great way to review material. Easy to use.
- Gosoapbox - here you can create digital space for polling, creating quizzes, have a discussion and also enables students to ask questions. It enables students to interact anonymously and allows the teacher to see the response. I also like the Confusion Barometer that lets students indicate whether or not they are "getting it". You can also download activity and grade reports.
