Jo's Sport Talk

Due to the upcoming school production, we ran our senior TPS Athletics Championships at the end of T3. Despite competing at the end of winter, it was still a great day watching all of the kids do their best at the various run, jump, throw activities.

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded certificates for the best overall athletes from the day.

Year 5 Girls: 1st Meleane Hala, 2nd Sophie Ormsby, 3rd Ruby Trueman

Year 5 Boys: 1st Max Taylor, 2nd = Louis Evans O'Loan and Phoenix Robertson

Year 6 Girls: 1st Alex Ormsby, 2nd Brooke Valois, 3rd = Olivia Keane and Varny Sun

In the second week back to school, Brooke Valois and Fabian Hill entered the WBOP Inter-School Tennis Tournament over in Papamoa. Both kids had a good day. This was Fabian's first tennis tournament, and he won 3 out of 5 games in the social grade. Brooke played in the girls premiere grade and came runner up, losing in the final 6/4.

All of our summer sports teams are well underway, and we have several teams competing in our local Rippa Rugby and RIP Rugby, Fast Football, Cricket, Flippaball and Volleyball competitions. OUT OF SCHOOL SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

Ryan Blair recently received the Batter of the Year Award for Albion Cricket Club. Ryan also received a trophy for Best and Fairest Player in his U11 rugby team at Tauranga Sports Rugby Club.

Zack Percy has just been named in the Baseball NZ un12 extended squad. He will go into camp in January, and from this a team will be selected to compete at the Oceania qualifier for WBSC Baseball U12 World Cup. The Oceania qualifier series will be held in Australia in March 2021, (travel restrictions permitting). This is exceptional news, and everyone at TPS is very proud of you Zack!

A few TPS kids went and toughed it out at the Rotorua Mud Run last week. Well done Tyson, Shania, Dylan, Heidi and Myla.
