Dear GRE Families,
Thank you to all our families who donated to this years "Stuff the Bus" food drive! It was a huge success and will support many families in need! We surpassed our goal of collecting 2500 and ended up with 2,871 canned food items. Meeting this goal means the PTO will be sponsoring a Children's Theater Assembly as a reward! Our top three classes who collected the most items are:
1st Place-Mrs. Valentik's Class
2nd Place-Mrs. Kurena's Class
3rd Place-Mr. Hardin's Class
As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to take a minute to thank all of our families for trusting us with your amazing children. We are so grateful for the support you give our GRE community. From the time you spend volunteering, to the amazing turn out at our many different events-we are thankful for YOU! I hope you'll take time to make memories, rest, and enjoy family time together.
Have a safe and fun filled Thanksgiving Break! See you Tuesday, December 3rd!

Specials Spotlight: Art with Mrs. Wood
We are learning about fall songs, chants, and Native American Folk songs in honor of Thanksgiving. Here are a couple of highlights from each grade level.
Kindergarten:
Students are exploring their voices through a variety of songs, chants, movement activities, and games. They are beginning to create their own patterns in triple meter and are learning how to keep a steady beat on the drum to accompany the “Navajo Happy Song”, which is a song from the Navajo Indian tribe.
Music Playlist: Annie, Annie, Navajo Happy Song, Albuquerque Turkey, Autumn Leaves, 5 Fat Turkeys
1st Grade:
Students are learning a variety of fall songs and chants. They are learning how to keep a steady beat on the drum to accompany the “Apache Melody/Hey Yah Nah” from the Apache Indian tribe. Students are also beginning to chant and create patterns in triple meter with rhythm syllables.
Music Playlist: Hey Yah Nah/Apache Melody, Bow Belinda, John the Rabbit, Turkey Named Burt, Old Joe Clark
2nd Grade:
Students are learning a variety of fall songs and chants. They learned a Native American folk song called the “Canoe Song” as they created their own canoes and rowed to a steady beat. They learned an ostinato pattern to accompany the song, which we will play on the xylophones.
Music Playlist: Canoe song, No More Pie, Turkey Song, Canoe Song
3rd Grade:
Students are continuing to learn new songs in our recorder unit. In the next couple of weeks, students will be learning how to play two new notes; low e and low d. Students are problem solving and using the recorder ABC’s to help them play with a gentle sound and appropriate technique. Ask your student about our recorder ABC’s and see if they can tell you what each letter means. Please remind your student to bring their recorder and red music folder every time they come to music!
Music Playlist: Hot Cross Buns, Closet Key, A Ram Sam Sam, Frog in the Meadow, Wolf
4th Grade:
Students are learning how to play a variety of two chord and one chord songs on the ukulele. They recently learned how to play the “Canoe Song”, which is a Native American folk song that uses two chords; d minor and c. In the next couple of weeks, they will be learning Holiday songs to celebrate December holidays.
Music Playlist: Best Day of My Life, Canoe Song, Holiday Round, Oh Christmas Tree
