Principal's Corner
The Knights of St. John is offering the two $500 scholarships again this year (one boy and one girl) for any student planning to attend a Catholic high school next year.
Interested students should submit a short (one page) essay to Mr. Moeller, explaining why they want to continue their education at a Catholic high school. The deadline for submitting the essay is Friday, May 3.
Thank You Calvin
Seventh grader Calvin Grote approached me last week about possibly allowing shorts before May 1, per our handbook. Together we have been watching the forecast looking for consistently warm temperatures. As you know we began allowing shorts yesterday. Thank you Calvin for working on this with me.
Wow! Thank You Mr. Stonerock
Last week's SLS Update included an article and pictures of a civil war presentation by Kevin Stonerock. The article described his visit to SLS. What it didn't include was what he said before he left. Please read the following quote from Joan Reideman.
"Today after Kevin Stonerock's presentation, he came in the office and said, 'You have some of the best students anywhere'! He mentioned that he always enjoys coming to SLS, because he finds this to be the case every year. He is from New Castle and travels both into northern and southern Indiana. He really enjoys our 'rural areas' because of not only the beauty, but also the kids seem much more engaged and appreciative of his presentation. He said we should be very proud of our students!"

PTO Meeting-Tonight
Wednesday, April 17, 6:30 pm at Amack’s Well. Please join us!
The final PTO Mtg for the year will take place at the Volunteer Dinner on 5/7. There will be no meeting on 5/17 as previously scheduled.
McTeacher Night 4/16
Thank you to all of the teachers that worked at McTeacher Night. It was so much fun and a great fundraiser for the school. We appreciate all of the support from those that came to eat.
Chocolate Sales
When sending in payments for the chocolate, make sure your child's name and homeroom teacher are listed on the money envelope. For better record keeping, a check made out to SLS PTO would be preferred in case there is a discrepancy. If you are not able to do this, just make sure the right amount is in the envelope. All boxes are $60 and the continental almonds are $120. Once your payment comes in, your child will receive their out of uniform pass. All money is due no later than Friday, April 26th.
PTO Scholarships
The PTO scholarship is available to any SLS graduating 8th grade student who will be attending a Catholic high school. PTO will award up to four (4) individual $500 scholarships to be presented at graduation. Forms were distributed to students on Tuesday at school and e-copies were sent to parents. Applications are due back by Thursday, May 2. As a reminder, the application must include all parts required or it will not be reviewed. No late entries will be accepted.
Volunteer Dinner
Anyone that volunteers at school is invited to the dinner (see flyer below)
New PTO Officer Needed
The current PTO President (Jill Weberding), Treasurer (Jane Lieland) and Secretary (Natalie Wanstrath) are planning to return next year. Please consider the VP position posted. It’s a fun time!
SLS Book Fair & "e-Wallet" payment option
Your student should have brought home a book fair flyer. In it you will also find your invite for Muffins for Moms on Tuesday April 23rd.

Pop Tab Wars
Pop Tab Wars 2019
Student Council will be sponsoring the annual pop tab collection from Monday, April 15th until Monday, May 5th. To date, SLS has collected over 1,900 pounds of pop tabs that are donated to the Ronald McDonald House. They are able to receive cash for the recycled pop tabs and the money is used to support the Ronald McDonald House. Students may bring in pop tabs to the table upstairs outside of the jr. high wing. Tabs can also be dropped off at the office in a baggie with your student's grade level clearly marked.
For every 10 gallons of tabs that a grade level collects, that grade level will receive an out of the uniform pass. Contact jwilson@st.louisschool.org for additional questions.
1st and 2nd graders "Read to the Finish Line"
SLS Art Exhibit
The Saint Louis School art exhibit will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 9 - 12:30, after the morning Masses. Come walk through the halls, have a doughnut, and see what our Saint Louis students have created this school year. Everyone is welcome!
You may also check out the art work after visiting "Muffins for Moms" on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Parents Wanted
SLS will be having a field day the last student day! We are in need of parents to come and help out. Joan has sent out an email from sign up genius to help you all see what is available and what we need help with. I like to give you as much notice as possible and understand this is a month and a half away. We appreciate any time you can give to us for this day.
Our field day will be held at the Liberty Park if there is no rain, and if it rains I will keep you posted. Getting set up in the morning would be a great help, filtering a spot while the kids are here is amazing, and helping take it all down would also be great. It will be a super fun day for the kids, teachers, and parents! Let me know if you can help out, and I will send out an email when the time gets closer.
Thanks so much for your time and being AWESOME! If you have questions contact me (not Joan) as I have the answers you're wanting. Thank you!!

ALP Donation
Earlier this month, Hillenbrand made a generous donation of $500.00 to our ALP Program! The funds will be put towards purchasing:
· STEAM related items like glue, large paper, a class set of quality scissors, and disposable gloves, etc.
· “Wacky Machine” building items (for the regional Rube Goldberg Competition) like pulleys, paint, tape, string, etc.
· iPad App purchases so we can have the latest and full version apps
SLS, the ALP students, and Mrs. Giesting (The ALP teacher) want to sincerely thank Hillenbrand for their continuous support. Growing creative thinkers is obviously not only a St. Louis School goal, but a community and Hillenbrand goal as well. We appreciate you!

Indy Honor Flight
We have some follow-up pictures below from the Indy Honor Flight trip that Steven's grandfather was recently on.
The 7th and 8th graders wrote letters to him and other veterans on the flight to be read during mail call that day. The Honor Flight allows our veterans to visit war memorials in Washington and honors them for their service to our country.

Additional subs needed at St. Louis
We are in desperate need of a few more warm, caring, dependable substitute teachers here at SLS. Candidates are required to have 2 years (aprox 30 credit hours) of college, or a substitute teaching license. Anyone interested in applying should stop in the school office and pick up a packet of paperwork. Please call the school office at 812-934-3310, or email me at jriedeman@st.louisschool.org with any questions you might have.
Just an additional note.........
The potential sub can be a commuting college student that has a "free" day during the week where they might be available. It could be a retired adult who wants to stay active, but not TOO busy. It could be a grandparent who would just like to volunteer a day now and then, or someone who just needs a little extra income. Subs come in all shapes and sizes, and are not required to give any more than they want to. Any amount of help you can provide is appreciated, and you always have the option of saying "NO" any time I call. Thank you for considering!

GOTR needs your help!
Your chance to make a difference.....
The GOTR 5K is coming up on May 11 at Liberty Park and takes 100+ volunteers to make the morning a success. There are many different volunteer opportunities all of which are VERY easy! No experience required. If you have a girl participating and will likely be present anyway, please consider volunteering.
Are you running/walking in the 5K? No problem! There are plenty of jobs you can do that take place before and after the actual 5K! (set up, clean up, parking, face painting, happy hair, door prize)
And if you are NOT running/walking in the 5K, you may help out at the water station, distribute medals, be a course marshal, distribute post race snacks, be a greeter/work finish line!
Please register here by April 30th to volunteer: https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/65YVWM2RHZKZX1W
