A little about me...
Hello Blue Willow Families,
We have had a great start to the school year already! Learning about our classroom routines and expectations, getting to know our peers, and diving back into learning!
I love to use Smore to send newsletters because it's a quick, creative, and informative way of keeping families in the loop of what's happening in our classroom. Through the year I will upload pictures of our learning, share links and resources to use at home, and let you know the subjects and topics we are exploring!
Here is a little about me! ...I went to university for a music degree, and decided to get into teaching since I loved being a piano teacher. That ended up being the best decision I have ever made because teaching is truly my passion. I LOVE primary classrooms and since I have started teaching I have taught Grades 1, 2, and 3, and am so excited to be trying my hand at Kindergarten.
I just got married this summer, and moved into a new home with my husband. It was a very busy summer to say the least! My husband is also a teacher with YRDSB, so to say that teaching is a big part of my life would be an understatement! I love to read, spend time at my cottage, watch movies, cook, and be around my family and friends.
Our Classroom
I am lucky enough to be working with a wonderful DECE this year, Ms. Aguiar. We will be working together this year to create an exciting and engaging learning environment for your children.
Right now we are working on finding out what your children know! Understanding their background knowledge allows us to differentiate the learning for each child in order to have them reach their highest potential.
We have been working on our letter sounds, sight words, and number sense and will continue to do so through September.
Red Poem Books are something you can work on at home with your child. They will include poems and pages that reflect letters, sounds, and words that we are working on in class, as well as mathematical concepts being explored. Please help your child to read the instructions and to complete the task on each page. You can listen to and support your child in identifying and reading the words they know on each page. New pages will be added each week, so it is important to make sure that the folder comes back to school with your child on Monday of each week.
Blue Communication Folders should be sent between school and home on a daily basis. This is where Ms.Aguiar and I will place any notes, forms, or important documents that need your attention. Please check the communication folder daily and send anything in the "Return" pocket back with your child as soon as possible! We appreciate your cooperation in this matter!

Our Schedule
Library: We have Library on Day 5 of the schedule. Once the students have completed their library orientation, they will begin signing out books to take home.
Gym: We have Gym on Day 2 and Day 4 of the schedule. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately so they can feel comfortable moving around the gym. Also, please ensure they are wearing proper footwear for the safety of their movement.
Contacting Me
If you have any questions or concerns at any time throughout the year, please feel free to contact me. You can write a note and put it into your child's blue communication folder as these are checked at the beginning of every morning. Feel free to email me at andrea.ciardulli@yrdsb.ca (my email is still under my maiden name!). Or if you have something you would like to speak on the phone about, please feel free to call the school and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
That's all for now! Check out the links that I have attached below. They are some videos we have been playing in class to talk about numbers and letters/sounds. Looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your children!
Until next time,
Mrs. Raynor :)
