Patrick Marsh Middle School Band

Welcome & Instrument Fitting Follow-up Letter

Welcome!

Welcome to Patrick Marsh Middle School Band and the Sun Prairie Band Family. We are so happy to have you with us! A newsletter similar to this one will be sent to you every Sunday night during the school year. It is our way of staying in touch with you and keeping everything organized.

Do You Have An Instrument and/or Supplies Ordered Yet?

It was great seeing everyone at the Instrument Fitting Nights on May 17 and May 18 at PMMS. Many of you took advantage of having Ward Brodt at the fittings. It is important for you to make arrangements for an instrument/supplies. It is better to do this sooner than later so the music store gets everything in and it is delivered to school on time. If you didn't get a chance to talk to the nice folks at Ward Brodt you can order everything online at https://www.wardbrodt.com/services/musical-instrument-rentals-madison-wisconsin

If you have questions and prefer to speak to someone call Ward Brodt at 608.960.8791

If you have any questions about getting an instrument/supplies, please contact us. Starting on a good quality instrument makes a HUGE difference. We want your child to be successful and start off on the right foot (no pun intended!).

Band Starts Now! Class (FREE) - August 22-26, 2016

We start the majority of our band students in a class called "Band Starts Now!". It is a free SPASD summer school course that takes place August 22-26 (5 days) at Patrick Marsh Middle School. Sign up for the class using the SPASD Summer School Online Registration. Here is the link: https://www.registrationcenter.net/sun_prairie/summer/

Once into the site please select "Band Starts Now - Patrick Marsh". It will not give you the specific times for each instrument grouping so here they are:

8:00-9:30 AM = Flute Class, Percussion Class, Trombone/Euphonium Class

9:30-11:00 AM = Clarinet Class

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM = Trumpet Class, Tuba Class

There will NOT be transportation available for BSN. If you have any trouble with the registration process please contact Jo Guyette in the Summer School Office:

jmguyet@sunprairieschools.org

We will offer a Fall Start-up Option if your child cannot attend BSN. These classes will be offered on Sept 1, 2 & 6 after school from 3-4 pm.

What Supplies Do We Use?

Ward Brodt has a list of everything we use and will include it in your rental. If you already own your an instrument you should still contact Ward Brodt to get the following lessons books for your specific instrument:

"Warm-ups and Beyond" - FJH Publication

"Student Instrumental Course - Book 1" - Belwin Publication

Clarinet players will also need a clarinet swab and Rico Royal #2.5 reeds. Euphonium and Tuba players will need to purchase a mouthpiece. Percussionists should refer to the percussion supply list given at instrument fittings.

Again Ward Brodt will help you with any questions about musical supplies - just tell them your child will be attending Patrick Marsh.

Band Uniform

Our band uniform for both 6th and 7th grade band is a long sleeved band shirt with our logo embroidered on the front. The cost of the shirt is $17.00. This fee will be included on your registration costs this coming Fall. We will fit your child for this shirt when school starts. The rest of the band uniform is black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Please find these remaining items before our first concert in October.
