The Challenge Difference
A Classical education is a leadership education
Homeschool through middle and high school
Christ-centered, Integration, Relationships, Flexibility, Support, Intentional Themes, and Conversations
Christ-centered: God is the creator of all things and therefore as we study the things He has created, we are learning more about Him and His character. As the students move through their subjects, they are encouraged to seek out His authority on everything they learn, making every subject an endeavor in learning more about Christ.
Integration: Integration of subjects has proven to increase understanding, retention, and overall comprehension along with development of multiple points of view. It can help students to learn to think critically and creatively. Classical Conversations is one of the only programs that fully integrates every subject and strand for the student.
Relationships: Because our students remain together throughout the day and have only one instructor that leads them through every strand, the relationships are even stronger. Class size can be no larger than 12 students, so the class becomes family and the students learn to interact with one another in a way that is honoring to God and each other.
Flexibility and Support: You homeschool because you believe that YOU know what is best for your child. You like to be in control of your child's schedule and be the ultimate decision-maker as to what they will study and where the bar will be set as far as what is expected of them. We agree. At Classical Conversations, we believe that the parent knows what is best and we strive to not usurp your God-given authority. You are your child's teacher and we are here to support you. We provide feedback on assignments, guidance for everyday work, online support, guidance counselors and more. We are here to help you educate your child.
Intentional Themes: What is it that you really want your child to take away from their education? Ownership, discipline, what it is to be truly free, choices and consequences, and leadership? Every Classical Conversations Challenge level is designed with an intentional theme to help students develop and understand the skills and practices necessary to invest personally and be responsible for their own education as they pursue Truth and their God-given purpose.
Challenge A - Personal Investment Builds Ownership
Challenge B - Ownership Builds Discipline
Challenge I - Discipline Brings Freedom
Challenge II - Freedom Brings Choices
Challenge III - Choices Bring Consequences
Challenge IV - Consequences Birth Leadership
Conversations: Let's face it. Most people tune out lectures. At this stage, students are created with an innate desire to converse. They want to talk about what they are learning. They want to argue, contrast, compare, dialogue, persuade, and more. Our classrooms are led as forums with a tutor facilitating the learning and discussion - NOT lecturing. By dialoguing about what they have learned in the past week, their understanding grows deeper! Our tutors are trained to help the students learn how to have conversations in a respectful and honoring way. Students learn how to listen, how to respond, how to build logical arguments, and persuade others to their point of view. With our smaller class sizes, this ensures that everyone will get a chance to discuss their assignments and no one will be left out. In the upper levels, students also have an opportunity to practice leading the class! We also don't waste valuable class time with tests and grading. This is something that can be done at home.
