CCA High School Celebrates Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Inclusion Week
February 27- March 4 is inclusion week. This celebration brings awareness to the message of inclusion. CCA high school is one of Iowa’s 110+ special olympics unified champions schools that is celebrating. Amanda Kleinhesselink's unified PE students made posters to hang all over the school and they all wore the same t-shirts to kick off the week.
"I love seeing all these students come together, build friendships, and celebrate their differences! These students make me so proud!" Amanada Kleinhesselink, High School Physical Education and Health Teacher.
Congratulations Coach Sweeney

Mental Health Matters: Brought to you by the CCA School Therapists
Happy March! We are only a few weeks away from spring. As we slowly close on winter with the start of a new month, we want to encourage you and your family to take some time for self care with the 30 day at home self care calendar provided. Remember self care does not need to be some elaborate routine and can be something small and simple.
A great coping skill is using a grounding exercise. Grounding techniques are exercises that may help you refocus on the present moment to distract yourself from anxious feelings. You can use grounding techniques to help create space from distressing feelings in nearly any situation. Here are 10 grounding techniques you can use and teach your student/s.
Remember, kids are not born knowing these techniques so we must show them and teach them before we can expect them to do it themselves. Take some time in the next couple of weeks to teach and review these exercises with your student/s!
Green Iowa AmeriCorps at CCA
This month, Green Iowa AmeriCorps taught your CCA Clippers about energy efficiency! During home CCAHS basketball games, as well as Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Sage’s 7th grade science classes, students generated electricity using our “energy bike.” The energy bike requires a certain amount of energy or “pedals” to light LED and Incandescent light bulbs. Brave volunteers discovered it took way more energy and pedals to light up the Incandescent lights as compared to the energy efficient LED bulbs. At the end of the lesson, students learned that different appliances require different amounts of energy and not all electricity is created equal!

We firmly believe that this investment is critical to the success of our students.
- Managing Growth- As the district continues to grow, we will advocate for reasonable class sizes. We will focus on building and maintaining our buildings and grounds to create an inviting learning environment. We will welcome the community to our district to share their expertise and knowledge in order to collaboratively improve our local community.
