Water Usage
28,000 million gallons were used in 2010 by 268 million people living in single family and multi family dwellings. The average American family uses over 300 gallons of water per day in their home. 97.5% of all water on Earth is saltwater and only 2.5% is fresh water. Fresh water comes from ice sheets, glaciers, icebergs, bogs, ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams. One load of laundry takes 40 gallons of water and a five minute shower uses 20 gallons.
