Shady Cove School Newsletter

February 2020

Last month we talked about the "I" in WICOR, which stands for Inquiry. This month we are sharing what the "C" stands for, which is collaboration. What does collaboration look like in an AVID classroom? As we all know, collaboration means to work with someone to produce or create something. What is the difference in an AVID classroom? It is very structured, intentional activities and discussions that provide meaningful discussions about a topic or project. Here are a few examples of activities that promote collaboration and you may see used in the classroom: think pair share, 4 corners, team huddle, collaborative groups, socratic seminars, philosophical chairs, give one get one, stand up hand up pair up, jigsaw, etc...

Do you want to go with your child on a field trip this year? Or do you want to help in a classroom or with a school activity?

Before taking part in a volunteer activity such as a field trip, applicants must complete a criminal background check. Background checks are good for several years.

To access the online volunteer application, click here or go to our district website at Click on Parents & Students and then Volunteer Information. Once you have completed the online application, it takes approximately 48 hours to process. Complete the process now so that you are ready for upcoming field trips.
